Just sounds great, doesn't it? It gives me a Zippy the Pinhead moment to say it. Snapshot-Skopar. All the others sound so technical and german-lens-like.

It's completely silly but my R4's viewfinder (and range finder) is compelling me towards procurement of a 21 mm. But, and perhaps even more silly, I feel that either the 15 mm or the Snapshot-Skopar has to go to make space for a 21. However, I took by best photo last year with the Snapshot. And my second best with the 15. They are both hanging on the wall behind me. Adding a 21 to a 15 and 25 set seems almost pathological. That 21 will go so nicely on my R4. Could I really part with that 15 mm miracle or a lens named Snapshot-Skopar?

Life involves so many tough choices.

I had the 15, 21 Skopar, 25 Snapshot-Skopar, and 28 Ultron. In order to afford the new 35 Nokton Classic I decided I needed to get rid of one of them to aid in the "financing". I ended up selling the 25 (along with the L it was attached to).

I miss that combo, but the 15 is just to unique of a focal length in RF cameras and the 25 was too close to the 28.

Ahh, the Snapshot-Skopar...

well, it's very accurately named.. If there's any lens that's 100% suited to snapshooting, it's this one. Wide enough to allow loose framing or shooting from the hip, and not so wide that you can't make out the subject or get vertigo each time you see a picture made with it.. I recently let a 17mm for my SLR go for that very reason.. far too wide to be anywhere near useful.

I'd think long and hard before I'd let go of a Snapshot-Skopar..

I'm with you on the Zippy the Pinhead moment in saying the name "Snapshot Skopar"- and I agree this is one of my favorite lenses for snap-shooting. Don't fear adding it to your kit when you already have the 15 Heliar and the 21 Skopar- these are actually pretty different focal lengths, relatively speaking. If you hang on and wait patiently for a bargain, you can probably afford to own all three. The 15 and 25 make a great kit with a Bessa L (and, as the first Cosina Bessa gear offered at once, it's a fun group to have in your non-collection collection). The 21- being RF coupled and also easily pressed into duty where either of the other lenses might work- makes a great single wide lens to carry with an M, along side a 35 or 50. I find it worth owning all three, and carrying different combinations in different situations.

I couldn't become friends with the 25mm, so exchanged it recently with 21mm skopar, and so far I really like it, its even rf coupled! 🙂

check out this. there's a tutorial ("understanding" at the top of the page) and lots of old strips.

zippy sometimes gets lost in a trance over a particularly mesmerizing phrase which he then repeats over and over. "quilted crystal jelly jars" for example.

zippy was a huge help to me in adjusting to life in america. he was my guide through culture shock.
