Sneaky (cat!)

YES!!! I own a copy. Pure genius; such a perfect parody of the art world that some people don't get that it IS a parody.

I had a professor in art school who used it as one of the textbooks for her class on the history of modern art for that reason.

Interesting - it seems like my kind of book. I definitely want to see that; I’ll see if my local Barnes & Noble has it in stock.

The book is pure gold. Each chapter is a profile of a different feline 'artist.' There are examples of each cat's work, essays about the cats feelings and motivations and how they're evident in the abstract images the cat paints.

Another of Sneaky getting love from my dad when he visited a couple nights ago.

and then there are people who claim that cats weren't social.
my guess - they just don' t know cats.

Of course cats are social, but on their terms. For those humans, myself included, who function the same way, it's the reason we so enjoy cats!

They're social if they like you. Sneaky is nice to most people, but some he does not like.

Once again, Sneaky pouts on his "Feed Me" stool because he was unhappy with the lack of steak on his cat food, visible on the plate on the counter. When I gave the food, he jumped from the stool to the counter, looked at the food, then returned to the stool and refused to eat. I had to sprinkle some meat on it to get him to eat.

Just ordered it!

He’s trained you well. You can be sure Sneaky is on the computer in the middle of the night, on the Dark Web, telling other cats how to train hoomans.

Chris, somehow I suspect that this state of affairs isn't totally Sneaky's fault.

Pal_K, I can promise you that you'll be rolling on the floor with laughter.

I’m looking forward to it! Barnes & Noble said it’ll arrive in a few days. I wish I’d studied art more, because I am fascinated by so many aspects of it - some which I’ve discovered accidentally (such as Fauvism). Too many hobbies and life is so short… Need nine lives.

Not his fault at all. In his opinion.

This evening, he demanded food and Mack (my son) fed him a can of cat food. He rejected it and I said what's wrong, don't you like the food Mack gave you? He meowed. I asked if it needed meat added, and he meowed LOUDLY. So, I got out the bag of meat, which had some steak and turkey in it. I put a handful of steak on his cat food. He just sat and stared. What, do you need turkey, too? Meow. So, I added some turkey, and then he FINALLY began to eat. He ate all of the steak and turkey and most of the cat food.

Makes me wonder what Sneaky did for meals during his wild and free life, before he adopted you. I suspect that he wasn't quite so finicky!

There are several women in the neighborhood who put out dry cat food for stray cats to eat. I've been told that Sneaky was a regular customer at several of these neighborhood food bowls, and that his patronage of them ended when I took him in even though he still goes outside every day. He absolutely refuses to eat dry food here no matter how hungry he is!

One of the women who fed him was surprised to see me carrying him around in my arms while he was cuddled up to me. She said that he would never let her pick him up and would fight if she tried!

Cat's are infallibly good judges of character! It took our cat years to decide she would let us hold her; she was feral as a kitten, and very traumatized. Possibly the same process with you and Sneaky. From you first posts in this thread, it sound like he had it pretty rough before he found you.
Incidentally, our kitty is a dead ringer for Sneaky. I was shocked when I first saw his picture. Like Sneaky, she has four white boots, so I named her Nancy. You're probably old enough to get the reference!

Funny thing is that Sneaky let me pick him up only a couple weeks after I began feeding him. He did have it rough, his owners left him out all the time and were not feeding him or taking care of his health. He had tapeworms when I took him in.

What's the Nancy reference? I don't know it.

Nancy Sinatra, I presume.

Maybe I’m weird, but I’ve always picked up and carried my cats like a baby. For some reason they didn’t mind being upside down. When I got a 10 year old “rescue cat” at the shelter (a worker whom I knew told me nobody wanted it and that people would adopt it and bring it back :-( ), the first thing I checked was whether it would purr for me and the second thing I did was cradle it - it didn’t mind. So I adopted it. It had originally been with a family that had kids and dogs and it was fearful at first. But we got along and I gave it a nice life. I’ve always had cats.

My father made this photo of me and our cat a little while ago…
