Sneaky (cat!)

6-28-23-sherlock-1.jpg

This is Sherlock; he lives at my favorite book store, Hyde Brothers Books in Fort Wayne. He's lived there about a decade, and he gets fatter every time I see him. I hadn't been there in a while, and was shocked to see how fat he was when I visited yesterday afternoon! He bullies the store's other cat and steals her food if they try to make him diet!

As big as that cat is they should have named him "Mycroft" !

I just heard a loud, nasty cat fight outside, 11:15pm. Went out to find Sneaky chasing another cat across my yard, hot on its heels. Sneaky chased it into the street, were a car was coming fast! Sneaky stopped before he got to the road but the other cat barely missed being hit by the car. I think my cat tried to assassinate the other cat by driving it into traffic! As soon as the car went by, Sneaky came back to the house.

The whole time this was happening, a big fat rabbit was sitting in my front yard watching it all, completely ignored by my cat who was too busy acting like a thug toward the neighborhood cats.

Aww, look at that sweet little face! Is that the face of a killer? Answer carefully...

The furry little Jeffrey Dahmer used to kill something every week. Mice, moles, shrews, voles, and birds. He's gotten lazy the last couple years; his last kill was more than seven months ago, but he is very capable of murder. He also eats spiders and moths pretty regularly.

That look reminds me of the cat from the movie, The Incredible Shrinking Man.

One of the neighborhood cats that Sneaky hates is a shorthaired orange and white cat named Marshmallow. He used to come in my yard sometimes but Sneaky always attacked him and he never let me get close to him.

Last night, he was in my next door neighbor's yard and he let me get pretty close then started acting scared. I turned and saw Sneaky sitting behind me glaring at Marshmallow. I walked over to Sneaky and he started rubbing my ankles and rolling around on my feet so Marshmallow could see that I was HIS human slave. Marshmallow then ran across the road, and Sneaky went to my front porch and stared across the street until Marshmallow was far enough away that he couldn't be seen.

A few nights ago, I saw Marshmallow across the street and he let me get really close. He walked up about an inch from my hand to sniff it, but when he did, his eyes widened and he RAN. I smelled like Sneaky.

Those who saw my post a couple nights ago will remember that Sneaky attacked another cat and chased him out of the yard. Sneaky's favorite song: "Damn, It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta" (Geto Boys).

Cats terrify me, too. I sometimes imagine myself about three inches tall, and then think of what my sweet little puddy-tat would do to me.
There were (maybe still are) a set of youtube videos which are copies of either an 8mm or 16mm ciné film made in Africa by a group of Belgian (?) tourists in Land Rovers.

The first film is brief and shows the caravan stopping in treed grasslands amidst lions resting in the shade. One of the tourists gets out, a man, and walks into the group of lions while making photos. One of the lions gets up, puts its front paws on the man's shoulders and pushes him to the ground. The other lions approach. This is where the first film ends.

The second film is actually the entire film, uncut. What it shows are the lions tearing this guy apart, live.

Without realizing there was the second version, I showed the first to a co-worker, whose wife is a veterinarian who owns and manages a cat-clinic. Both her and her husband (my co-worker) have been to Africa numerous times. She has stood amidst playing lions and amidst the very dangerous Cape Buffalo. He had some of the photos in his office - I could see they were made with a very wide angle lens, so she was easily not more than eight feet from them, in a group. She was not afraid and the animals did not threaten her. They do this on every trip. Anyway, he sent her the youtube link, but accidentally sent her the second gruesome one. He was freaked out, but I don't think she cared.

When I've gone to the zoo, I'm convinced I could join the big cats and be friends. I only worry about tigers; they are scary.

Darwin award winner in that video!

There was an American a few years back who thought he had befriended a group of bears in Alaska. He lived with them for several years, uploading videos to social media. One day, while the cameras were rolling, the bears killed and ate him, and his girlfriend.

Sneaky sat down on my foot when I was walking across the driveway and wouldn't let me move!
Normally that would be considered "felony restraint." But since Sneaky is a Cat, you have to obey his wishes. It's for your own good: by delaying your progress, Sneaky probably saved you from some calamity, such as a speeding car or a nearby lightning strike. Only the Cat knows.
