I once saw something about heated sidewalks and driveways. The way to go.

My dad went to college at Kansas State in the 1950s and he told me that the campus had a central steam plant and ran the pipes from that to the other buildings under the sidewalks--self clearing!

Some guy in Wisconsin has a wood burning boiler with pipes melting walkways and driveway and of course heating house with radiant heat under floor.

I just put in a wood stove this year and love it, small house though, 650 sq feet is easy to heat with a small stove and some fans.

Cortland part of the snow belt isn't it? Rochester missed most of the ugly stuff every year, my friends in Buffalo, well that's a deep story.

Joe, I always enjoy seeing your pictures of that funny white stuff on the ground. I used to see it up close in Indiana when I was a kid. But here in SF it's in short supply...

Yeah, we get our share. I have family in the Buffalo area(Hamburg) and they see a lot more snow than I do, usually. It(the snow) is late this year. Which leaves me wondering about how ugly the end of the season is going to be 🙁
The plus side is, though, that I hope to have a very nice new(to me) toy to take pictures of all the dreary snow/slush/mud 🙂

SNowing here in the Seattle area. Lots. My bus wouldn't go any further and I had to run a mile+ in the snow to hitch a ride home. I have never seen snow stick down by the lake in Seattle. Never seen in stick to the 5 interstate either, but it does tonight.

And I have a meeting tomorrow at 8am...

I love snow anyway.

Winter might be coming to Kansas City later this week. It is supposed to be 69F and raining on Wednesday with falling temperatures during the day. It will likely switch over to a snowy mix a some point. The high Thursday is predicted as 27F, so it should be interesting.

While I don't want a foot of snow, I'm ready for winter. It felt weird to be warm enough to wear shorts on Thanksgiving here!

Rochester missed it last year, but the winter of 2004-2005 we got hit hard. Lots of guys with 4wd trucks and blades lost their shirts. They were either overextended due to flat-rate contracts or lost all their profit replacing transmissions. My CR-V clad with Nokian Haakapelittas loved it.
