Snowstorm KILLS my K'chrome Shipment Dead

At this date, the only thing to learn is if Diafine or D76 can develop it... 🙁

have you/are you going to try it? i heard a story from the former east german border regarding kodachrome. apparently the guards were suspicious about a particular someone with camera and lots of kodachrome ready to leave east germany. they supposedly detained him for a couple of hours, took one exposed film from him, and returned it as a roll of unmounted but very usable black & white slides. who knows?

greetings from hamburg

This tells me the Stasi weren't quite as "with it" as portrayed in The Lives of Others; merely ruthless.

Yes, it makes a low contrast but very fine image when developed in HC110.

A few years ago I was an overnight processor of black and white at Specialty Photo in Santa Barbara and someone slipped a roll of Kchrome 64 into my batch. Since I loaded everything in the dark, I couldn't tell what was in the canister. The image looked great but I saw the opened canister in the bag when I went into the light so I knew what it was.

I have a few rolls of each of the available speeds of Kodachrome still & I'm just going to develop them as black and white but increase the time.

Make sure to do a long prewash too, there is some black/green goo (anti halation layer?) that needs to be removed.

I'll post here when I develop some of this recently shot K25 (Blizzard in Philadelphia + the holidays prevented me from getting it off to Dwaynes)

They are doing just that though. Running until the very last batch of chemistry is exhausted. They have a reliable target date for the end due to their volume. It runs out tomorrow, that's it.

I've read on developing Kodachromes in B/W chems. It seems one has to e=overexpose about 2 stops knowing it will be developed in B/W soup or prolong time. Black good is said to antihalation layer, and needs to be removed at any(?) stage of process, and yes, presoaking is needed. There are also experiences like getting blank film.

I've not done this myself, just picked up little grains somewhere on Net.

If anyone succeeds with this, I'm sure many would like to read on.

Indeed, Kodachrome can be processed as black and white film.

That's interesting..... Does it then become B&W slide film? I have the same problem as Barrett: waited to get some nice snowy scenes, then our Postal Service cried about the weather causing disruption.

What will happen to film that arrives at Waynes after the deadline: will they just bin it, or return undeveloped?

I thought I'd shot my last roll of Kodachrome a few weeks ago but a kind RFF'er sent me a roll last week and I shot it at London Zoo on Christmas Eve morning, and got it into the airmail that afternoon. It'll be interesting to see if it arrives at Dwayne's in time, but no great loss if it doesn't.

Having said that, I've never been a big fan of Kodachrome. The colours always struck me as a bit flat and there were often odd casts to it; Provia and Astia have been my colour films of choice for several years now.

Hopefully, the wave of procrastinators was huge and there will still be film going into the machine when yours arrives.

I also suspect that the Logan's-run style end day is not going to happen exactly on the cutoff.

If either of those things happen - like hitting the grocery store after "closing" but when people are still in line - you should be able to get those last rolls in (and as someone pointed out, Dwayne's needs the goodwill). If not, Film Rescue International should be able to process them as black and white.

Best,
Dante

P.S. I always thought of Kodachrome as something of a (drama) queen.

P.P.S. Still sad about Verichrome but comforting myself with cheap Irish whiskey and T-Max 400.

Well, life (including my life with film) goes on. I'll put the rolls of Kodachrome aside (all the while singing Tony Banks' "All I Need is a Miracle"), then buy a few test rolls of Ektar for a possible future project.

The King is Dead*, and all that jazz.

(*Dante Stella might argue the "King" was Verichrome Pan.)

So then what's the truth?

They are not out of chemistry tomorrow, they have the next few days off, will start the K-14 line on Monday, most likely will be able to run all the film next week. Of course they are going to eventually run out of soup, but the deadline cut off will come along and even that out.

Go take some photos, I am going to after I get some sleep..

I still got a brick of pre-payed processing KC-64 in the deep freezer. I'm in France and I wonder where I could have it processed when the time comes.
In the past I used to send it to Swiss but I don't know now.
Any clue ?

All options are now officially closed.

Hey I just ordered two of those shirts ... not the same as having a brick of film but what can ya do 🙂
The postage was a killer but i think it's worth it.

40 rolls oh dude i shed a tear for you loss.

Is there no way to develop the stuff ? Some one mentioned that it can be processed as black and white but no details 🙁
