Now that's interesting.... I wonder if they paid royalties. And what they did with the original lens ring. Would be a project to remove the current ring and see if it was just applied over the original, and what the serial number from Canon was...
Too bad it costs a King's Ransom (I know, that would be a cheap King..).
Meyer Optik was a firm that produced camera's, cine camera's and lenses. They were one of the main suppliers for Exa, besides Carl Zeiss. I would hazard a guess that this one was sold by them as rebadge, towards the end the firm's existence.

Yeah, but wasn't Meyer-Optik originally Hugo Meyer? And although their Exakta lenses weren't at the premium end of the spectrum, I doubt that they would have done such a sloppy job of gluing on a leatherette ring as the one shown in the pictures. I'm guessing this is a relatively recent conversion by a small independent machine shop.

Harry, that's the same thing I thought when looking at the first picture!
It was Hugo Meyer Optik, Goerlitz but in the 1960's it was in the DDR (former German Democratic Republic) when they just firmed as "Meyer Goerlitz VEB" ("people's own company"). I wonder if they officially did import lenses from Japan to convert them. It is not known they had build any lenses in Leica-M mount!

We will probably never know for certain, but we can make some surmises. I'd bet they made up a couple,as samples, and planned on adapting probably Canon TV lenses for any future sales. The TV lens could be converted without the rear element cut, because the RF coupling on the M could be part of the mount, as far as I know. Anyone here a specialist in this?? Would be a prestige item, as well. Doubt they did this officially, they wouldn't have wanted to pay extra for the privilege.
The lens offered on ePray isn't grossly overpriced. It is already in M mount, so worth 2-300 extra to a user. Figure 900-1000, plus the add-on for a camera shop. I don't think they would get a collector interested, but it's hard to predict the thought processes of a collector. (My wife would agree with that.)
