So about batteries for the R-D1s...

So the one thing that's confusing about gearing up for my soon-to-be delivered R-D1s is batteries.

I can't see where the genuine EU-80's are sold and I'm confused about buying aftermarket ones.

Any tips on which are safer than others when it comes to camera problems like locking up or anything?

I bought a couple of the Lenmar replacement batteries when I still had my RD1. They worked perfectly. They run about $18 each. Check Amazon.

the lenmars work great, just as good as the oem.

I had about half a dozen different brands of batteries for the Epson over the years. They all worked great, although one brand (I forget which, but I had two copies so it was definitely a brand or batch issue) fit very tightly and the cover had to be closed with a little force. The only other problem was with one of the original batteries that already had years of use at that time. The camera started shooting some blank frames with that battery, and that's when I quit using it. I kept my other original battery in rotation.

I always bought two of the cheapest I could find. They are affordable batteries anyway, but this strategy made them quite disposable for me.

Well I bought one Lenmar from Amazon and I have the stock battery also we will start there. Thanks for all the help guys, I'm very excited it will be here Friday!

I guess I need to check out those Lenmar ones.

Bought 3 new replacement NP-80 batteries for the R-D1 last year, but they do tend to give me blank frames in colder weather.
They were advertized as 2300mAh replacement batteries, but I guess they can't supply the peak load required when writing to the flash card.

I've gathered that some batteries with lower capacity than 1800mAh (like the OEM one) have this problem as well.

Spare Lenmars for all my cameras over the past ten years and I've never had any issues.

So I've been using the Lenmar battery for a few days and it seems to work great; the duration is good.

I ordered another one just so I could have 3 batteries in rotation.
