Would you, by any chance, know of a good place to get a manual for a Canon P?

And really, the question can go for everyone else too. And yes, I have one sitting on my desk. And yes, it's coming out with me today. And yes, it's pretty! I can see why you'd want a bagillion of these.
So, so, so happy. I can't wait to throw some Tri-X through it.

Okay, now we want to know the rest of the story. Did the elves leave you a Canon P?

Me too. How did we go from a possibly broken Ricoh RF camera to a Canon P in 48 hours or less without a hint of your impending good fortune?
WARNING: You are about to suffer a serious GAS attack and lust for more lenses, finders and who knows what else!
Congratulations on getting a really nice model Canon.

It's on loan...kinda.
And yes, I'll be camera/coffee'ing today. Chai, though, not coffee. My grandparents use Folgers and I can't stand to drink that stuff.

I'm really excited. And I know I'll suffer a GAS attack for lenses...starting with that damn Russian 35.
That does work with the P, right?
And yeah, I kind of kept it a secret until I actually got it and was going to keep it a secret until I took some photos for the August challenge and let the cat out of the bag then, but I was too excited. One person has made me very, very happy.
Yup, your worse problem here on RFF is that someone will adopt you. At least camera-wise.

If you want the whole story, I was going to go for a Contax IIIa with the money from my Nikon plus a little extra. Someone PMed me here and told me they had a P. At first I wanted to wait for the Contax and then I thought about it for a second and reconsidered. I've been wanting to get into the Leica lens system for who knows how long now and this is a pretty good oportunity.
I have a feeling that once I see the negatives from this camera I'm not going to want to go back to having something else. I'm not going to want to trade it off for anything either. I'm generally a simple person an this is one of the simplest cameras I've ever seen. So easy. I love it and I've shot one frame.
But yeah. I'll be shooting on a theme today, two actually, that someone gave me. I'll also try and shoot the camera/coffee shot with my crappy old digital.

Great! That ought to be one of the best choices, I suppose. BTW, there is a Canon 7 on the bay (ending in less than an hour). It has some problems. Don't know how hard they are to fix, but right now it's still going for a low price.

Beware. People with soft hearts have hard fists.
The number of lenses available for the Canon P and LTM cameras gives you a chance of picking up some good, used lenses for little money. The same is not true of the Contax and Nikon RF's. Not as much choice and collector prices.
The lever advance, hinged-back, rewind crank, and 1x Viewfinder will all be appreciated. Once you have used them, it is hard to go back to knob-wind, removable back, and squinty viewfinder.
Enjoy the Canon P. One more for Joe's side.

Very tempting. I bet it's doable-yourself. It's been a while since i've opened a camera...my fingers are itchy...Little Prince said:BTW, there is a Canon 7 on the bay (ending in less than an hour). What's a good price for a well-working canon 7?
Is the shutter wrinkle a problem in use?

wrinkle is not a problem usually.
under 200 bucks for sure. if it stays at 125 that would be a good price.

Stephanie, here's a link to Karen Nakamura's web page that will permit you to access her page on the Canon P. Not only is it an interesting write-up by Karen but it also gives links to other sites that you'll find interesting. I think you'll like it.

Joe, it has the 50/1.8. I've been very impressed with the photos I've seen from this lens so I'm guessing it'll do me well.
I want to find the 35/1.8 Canon lens eventually too...I have a feeling it's rare, though. Any idea what I'd actually pay for one?

Stephanie, that 35mm F1.8 lens will go for $300 and more.
Go for the Canon 35mm F2.8 lens, it goes for $100 to $200. Well made, sharp, and gives a very pleasing photograph. You can hand hold a wide-angle lens at a slower shutter speed, so the faster F-stop is not as important.

Guys, what do you think of this one:

It looks like a well used but working horse... How's that lens performing?
Sorry stephanie, to hijack your thread

Congratulations, Stephanie. Sounds as though you have found a very nice camera. I'm in your camp with the simplicity factor -- I love non-metered mechanical cameras. I'm looking forward to the Camera and Coffee post!!!
