Spent the last five hours traveling and finishing off a roll of Ektar in my 500C/M. The last three shots were the most important.

So, after frame 12, I wound the camera, which also winds the magazine, but like an effing moron, I didn’t wind the magazine so that the entire film roll could be completely on the takeup spool.

You guessed it: once home I unlocked the insert and immediately saw the tail end of the film. I didn’t pull the insert completely out and the room was dark, but I had it partway out for about 2 seconds, tops.

Of the 12 frames, how many do you think are not totally light-struck?

It’ll be a while before I know - I don’t develop 120 color film.

I am so mad at myself right now. Lesson learned, but right now I don’t even want to see a camera.

UPDATE:

I was lucky. Only the very top of frame 12 was light struck, which I can crop with no adverse effect; the rest of the frame and the earlier frames are fine. Thinking about it, the fact that I wound-on after frame 12 helped a bit, plus the fact that the paper backing offers good protection.

However, before receiving the processed film I decided to travel back to the same location and re-photograph the same scenes - as similar as weather would permit.

Definitely a lesson learned and a mistake I’ll never make again.
