I sold mine about 18 months ago to help fund a D700. It's a lovely camera, but used, it's around 6 times the price of a used F100, which I have now, and is nearly as good.

One shy - I have a Nikon F5.

Shooter of Film...
I have the F5 and at times wonder how much better the F6 could be...right now if I had to buy another film camera it would be another F5...although I've never held an F6...hmmmm...

Absolutely loved my F5. Sold it to buy a D2H and it is now gone but wish I had the F5 back. The MF28 databack was awesome!
But, having never held or tried an F6.... maybe a missing body part would not be so bad?

I have a Nikon F6 and love it. Without doubt if I had to settle on a single camera I would keep the F6 above my M6, Mamiya or my 4x5. The only flaw with the F6 is common to all Nikons - it's impossibile to mount Minolta MC/MD lenses on it!
The F6 is an incredibly versatile camera. Weighs a ton but I have no problem with it as a street shooter and am happy to lug it around.

The F6 is a metering wonder. I don't know if or how it surpasses the F5's metering, but it is astounding.

The best camera is one that still works!
To me, the F6 represents tha absolute pinacle of Nikon's considerable SLR skills before they went digital. The more I read about the F6 the more I want one because I know it can do nearly everything my D700 does but without that nasty little sensor in it!

Real Men Shoot Film.
Nope. I shoot with an F3. I have an F4 too but it needs repair. The F5 and F6 never interested me. I despise the digital controls, which I have to tolerate every time I borrow my son's D70 to shoot a digital photo. With film, I have the choice of shooting a camera with real controls that doesn't weigh 500lb too.

Wasn't the F6 introduced after they went digital? It advanced their film cameras to the same level of advancement of their top digital cameras.

I think there was an overlap of technologies for sure. Nikon still lists the F6 at it's site amazingly ... and I seem to remember jonmanjiro saying they still produce a limited amount of them each year.

Enjoy Life.
I have an F6, absolutely love it. Fantastic tracking abilities, superb shutter action/damping and so darn ergonomic. If it's in the budget I highly recommend it.
The F6 is, technically, still a current Nikon product...pretty amazing.
Here is a stunningly crappy pic of mine from last year, matched with an 85/1.4.

The F6 came out at the same time as the D2x. I'd love to try one sometime, but my F100 is a great camera.

My very competent F100s would never speak to me if I were ever seriously tempted.

Nikon was still making them in limited batches at Sendai Nikon, but Sendai Nikon got hammered by the earthquake on the 11th (almost got hit by the tsunami too) and is still not operating. Probably won't be any new F6s, or D3s, or D700s for a little while.
Actually I noticed the camera shop that has my Fuji on order has warned of across the board price increases for a lot of their top selling DSLR gear!
No discounts to pass on out of Japan is their reason!

Yep, and at one point, they even referred to it as "FX format" on some page. Can't find it now though.Nikon still lists the F6 at it's site amazingly

I had an F6 and a D2X at the same time. I sold both and got an M6 and a D700.
The F6 metered better than the D2X. It was also quieter than either other Nikon...in fact, I think it was as quiet using it's quiet single-shot mode as my M6. It metered so well, it was a point-and-shoot using b&w film.
If it counts for anything, the F6 is in my opinion the best-looking SLR on the planet. I wish I still had it...but the D700 is basically an F6 that I don't have to scan for, and that's really nice.
