so...xpan w/ Nikon PC-E 24mm

There are adapters readily available to mount Nikon F lenses on the xPan variants...and more than just a few accounts of the older 35pc covering the extended 65mm width. Just curious of anyone has ever tried the 24 PC-E on an xPan variant, and if so, what were the results...

so...is 30 < 24 (or 19 for that matter, as suggested by Sanntu)? just looking for the biggest image circle possible in the shortest focal length possible. if the 30 is where that trail ends, so be it & i'll be there...

just exploring other possibilities prior to committing to that solution...

From memory, the Nikon lens allows something like 11mm rise/fall, so its image circle must be at least (36+11+11=58mm). It might well have a bit more even if the definition falls off a bit, so my guess is that it would come very close to covering the Xpan format.

When I use the 35mm PC Nikkor on my XPAN, it covers corner to corner with no vignetting. But when I use my 28mm PC Nikkor, I can see rounded edges left and right. It doesn't quite cover into the corners. There is just enough vignetting to leave a little blank film in the corners. So I would not assume the 24mm can reach all the way into the corners.

How would you control the (electronic) aperture?
Does an adapter exist or is the case where you must mount it on a Nikon body, select the aperture, then remove it and mount it to the xpan as I believe can be done with the Canon lenses?

There's no electronic aperture on the XPAN lenses. What you do give up is rangefinder focusing, since the Nikon lenses lack the focusing cam needed by the rangefinder. However, with 35mm and wider lenses, the DOF is generally sufficient for scale focusing.

thanks to all. from much googlin' & asking around, it appears none wider than the 35 PC-E are capable of being adapted to/covering xPan's 24x65 (save the dedicated xPan 30, a copy of which is now making the trip from the UK to TX). good enough for me.

I just looked at my 24 PC-E and it won't work on my x-pan unless you come up with a way of operating the diaphragm / aperture. It's by default wide open all the time until it receives an electrical signal from the camera to close. You'd have to come up with an electrically driven adapter to operate the aperture / diaphragm. Either that or shoot wide open all the time.
