Soaked Lens

I posted this on Fred Miranda, but I'm sure I could get some advice from you guys too !

To make the story short, my 17-35 f2.8 AF-S was soaked in water for 10 seconds, maybe 5-6 inches deep. A stupid accident, but anyway...

Lucky me, it was attached to a manual camera, the electronics were offline. The water was clear and non salty. Now, most of the water evaporated, but you can still see some condensation under the front element. I was in camping, so I couldn't do anything special.

Now, what should I do? Leave it in a dry place for a week and check if works? Some suggested to put it in a ZipLock with some rice. Should I sent it ASAP to Nikon? If the lens dries, it will still require some cleaning, how much does the cleaning job costs?

I think I remember that's a good and expensive lens... You should send it, I guess... For the price you'd better check by phone...

IMHO, the best will be to send it to Nikon the sooner you can. Those new AF lenses are quite difficult to service and I guess no one would be better than them to do the job.

first place it in a bag with desiccant if you can get it, if not rice will work. electronic stores might be a good source of spare packets. then call nikon to find out the best course of action.
