Soft button shutter release

Have been considering buying one and thought I wouls see what experience others have had and whether it is a good idea in practice.

Paul, as a relatively new poster here - you obviously have not seen the dozens of times that this topic has surfaced here - every few weeks!. It's a personal thing, some find improvement, others a waste of time, just get a decent one from a reputable supplier like Tom Abrahamson, and give it a go, they don't cost a fortune - if you don't like 'em!

Are you in the UK? I've got a Tom A classic softie that I used to use on a canonet that broke - now I have a Bessa and unfortunately the softie is redundant as it doesn't fit. I really liked using it though!
 
I love mine. At first I bumped the thing a had a lot and wasted frames, but after a year or so of having in on my camera everyday as I walked to work, I've learned how to handle it so that accidental shots just do not happen very often. So, if you get one, and really like the ergonomics, but end up with a lot of accidental frames, just give yourself some time to adapt before throwing it away.
 
Tried a "softie", gave it away. When I need to minimise shake, I use a cable release and press it with my tongue. Seriously, the only really useful sort of accessory release would be oleo-pneumatic. I have yet to see a shutter release so badly designed that something must be added to it.

On my ZI, I find it indispensible.

However, didnt care for it on my R-d1s; in a lot of instances, it would seem to get "stuck" halfway through pressing the shutter button, and caused me to miss shots. I finally just took it off.

I had something like this with a M3 body I once had and one particular soft release button design - it seemed that the shutter did not actuate till the cameras shutter button was right at the bottom of its throw. Not a problem when pushing down with a fat fleshy finger but that soft release bottomed out on the surrounding collar before this happened. On another later M3 body - not an issue
