Soft-release stand off

the silver soft-release on my R sits nice and snug with the shutter release button. the black one on the R4 stands off about 1.5 mm.

i tried swapping them and the black one is snug on the R and the silver one stands off on the R4. so the difference is in the cameras, not the soft-releases.

anyone else noticed this?

is there a way to get the soft-release snug on the R4?

Shave 1.5mm off the button.

Or tighten it really really really tight. But I wouldn't recommend that.

The one on my R2A sat like that as well. I put a couple tiny black O-rings underneath and tightened down on them. It helped keep it from backing out as well.

You can use a small file to correct the difference in "depth" of the Bessa's cable release thread. Take the Soft-release and file down the small "pip" at the bottom of the the thread. Dont file down into the thread though! The thread on the "softie" is standardized, but the release buttons are not!
I would not advise over-tightening it as it can pull the shaft out! The O-ring around the base of the works too.

Mine is proud on the R3a too - I understand filing , but not how Orings help with having the Softie lower? "the base of the ..." what Tom/others?

i love the feel of the softie but woul dlike it a little more flush...

It's not to lower the base of the softie, but rather to reduce the gap between the softie and the shutter button.

I will probably end up doing this to mine, because it's been twice thus far, that I have found the softie almost about to fall off from accidental de-threading while in the bag!!!

tom, i did this and it made no difference. i wasn't surprised. the "pip" sits in teh space where the cable release poker goes. and i thinkt he threads are tapered. so no chance.

the only way i can think to do this is to retap the ****ter release button. or replace it with a spare for the old R.

i really like the soft-relese on the R. it's a great accessory. the way it sits on the r4 is so high up that i don't really want it.

and i'm worried that an inadvertant bump would snap it off the top (the shank is very narrow) leaving a sharp-relase behind.
