Hi Joe -
I just checked on my Mac. I can't open the RAF files in PSE9 or PSE8. I can in Aperture and Lightroom. I had always assumed that when installing the updated ACR files it handled PSE too. Not true this past time. Not a big deal for me since I very seldom use PSE anymore. I'm sorry if this is not of any help to you though.

there is a download for pse8 and another for pse9...it's not the same as for lightroom etc.
i would like to try lightroom but it's almost 400 bucks here plus i'm lazy and know what i like to do in pse...what a pain to learn a new system.

does pse open x100 raw files? or, and i think i would have to...still download the update?
Good question. I'm assuming (again) that the latest version will work since ACR is supposed to work with PSE but might be worth asking at adobe pse forum before committing to purchase. And specs say you can edit raw image files but then it says that for PSE8 too. Maybe its just an x100 file format problem.

Joe, have you checked eligibility for Adobe education pricing? If there is a student or teacher in the family...

and you can get the free trial version which is fully functional (so it says) to see if it works first.

I would have thought that DNG converter is batch converting all the x100 raws files in the folder to DNG format and saving them in one go so that will will take some time. But assuming it saves them all from then on you look at dng files only. But what you are saying is that bridge cannot read adobes own dng format which is very odd.

Oh that's a bugger. But if you are happy to let DNG convert do batch covert all files in a folder then surely you can access dng files without the need for other software.

You shouldn't need the upgrade if you are reading dng files after DNG convert, but if that is too slow for you then yes you'll need better software.
The following states adobes case for dng format.

Get Lightroom, you won't regret it.
Or Aperture if you're on a Mac. The Appstore price is very good.

It says right on the Adobe site that the latest RAW version for PSE8 is 6.2 --- http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5107
I see that PSE9 is only $79 after a $20 rebate, it would save you a lot of hassle just to buy it.

I run both Mac and Windows and use my X100 on both. I hope I'm not wrong and don't want to add to the confusion, but my eperience was:
In Mac - (Aperture) it's not the Aperture that needs to update, it's the Mas OS itself. So - Aperture stays the same, update Mas OS; now Aperture likes X100. - I don't know if this holds for PSE (mac)
HOWEVER
Windows - I use Adobe CS4 (Not wanting to buy CS5)
No way for X100 - as ACR 6.4 only wants to talk with CS5.
So in Windows I need to :
a) buy CS5 (no way)
b) (and this is what I do for raw (if I used raw which I don't on Windows))
- must use the stand alone Adobe DNG converter (free) with ACR 6.4
