Software solutions?

Yep, saw that thread a few days ago. I'm surprised nobody pointed it out before ::shrug::

That method is my quick way to get rid of shots with severe CA (rather than having to fine-tune dozens and dozens at a time)

I actually hope this is not the way they fix the problem. This should be thought of as a solution, but not the solution. I know how sensitive this issue can be and how the bashers would love to jump on any opportunity to cry bloody murder, so I'll just leave it at that. I encourage everyone to read that thread thoroughly and understand why this works.

I read it thoroughly and I don't really understand it all. Alot of acronyms thrown in there.

But, I am sloggin through this stuff and learning as I go.

The needed profiling work can't be done in C1LE (as far as I can tell.) You need to have C1 Pro, so I went on-line to get it, and found it costs almost $500. That's a heck of a price for what amounts to a RAW converter, it's 3/4 of retail for Adobe PS.

JC,

Profiling is not easy..... if you are new to this do not even go into it and keep the money for the pro version in the pocket.
You do not need C1 Pro to use a different profile however than the one canned and provided with the software........ just have a little patience till the guys out there have tweaked the profile to perfection ... they will share the profile and all you have to do is use that ready profile in C1 LE.

I tried one of the profiles myself (in C1 LE) to give the developer some feedback ... and it takes care of a lot (for some most if not all) of the issues!

So a little bit of patience is the key....... there is a bright light shining at the end of the tunnel.

In the meantime I would strongly suggest to go shooting the M8 and enjoy it!

Jaap. THanks for pointing out the thread. It may not help much as I have only C1E, but at least I am learning more about color management.
That is a pretty helpful crowd, they are looking into C1LE as well, and you can import profiles into LE. Just download any profile to your desktop, rightclick and choose "install". I'm sure there will be a number of M8 profiles posted on various forums.

This is all really good information. Thanks all. I am not going to spend $500 more dollars, but I am good a being patient!!

By changing the camera profile, as MR suggested here: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/m8-magenta.shtml the magenta cast is reduced by quite a bit. I am also a little more comfortable in hoping for a firmware fix and/or better camera profile in C1 Pro. I tried it and indeed it seems to be better .... Hm, as it turned out some people are working on the Leica forum as well. That's positive sign until Leica comes up with a better and more permanent solution.
