Ive been using my Summilux f1.4 50mm with my sony NEX5N.

For years i wanted to buy a Leica M3 or M4,later an M8(until i tried one)then M9 which is just to expensive.

Recently i found an M4p for 600€ (still for sale)then read much more about the M Leica.thin shutter material problems(possibly)with slow speeds, there quite old---

Later i saw yet another person with a Leica taking images with his phone---

The price of glass for Leica seems to be going up and up. When a friend was in dispare having not been the highest bidder for a Summilux sold on ebay which went for 1620€ plus P&P i said he could buy mine

He gave me 1600€ cash & i gave him my Summilux

I then called photo mundus in Germany where i bought a 21mm f4 Voigtlander with NEX adapter 220€ inc P&P

Next i waited for a vogtlander 12mm f5.6 on ebay id bid 1€ unfortunately there were other bids, but being August in France i got it for 279€ inc P&P i bought this just because its crazy

next i found on ebay a NEW 40mm f1.4 vogtlander 319€ inc P&P

And last i bought in Switzerland from a closing sale a Zeiss 24mm f1.8 for my sony NEX 480€ (600sfr reduced from 840sfr)--id been on a train i had to change in Zurich and had 2 hours to wait i also bought an olympus OM2 black body with 100mm f2.8 for 60sfr(48€)

Im REALLY happy with my new glass the 40mm is as good as the old 50mm Summilux

I must add that i do B&W with my Russian Leica, Olympus OM1,Nikon F,Olympus PEN F,1932 Kodak not to mention stereo

I always have my Sony TX1 or NEX and my Russian Leica when traveling

The 21mm is also very sharp but has no focus damping😡
The Zeiss well its better than a Sony E mount lens--i suppose

Are Leica lens overpriced????????

I still have a couple left🙄

Having considered a VC Nokton 50/1.5, at this time I had occasion to watch several pre-asph summilux 50 (not better) absurdly overpriced,

Is there a question here, or You just need somebody to talk to?

Leica is a lot more expensive than Voigtlander and (especially second hand) Zeiss. I recently sold my Summicron Rigid 50mm and Summitar 50mm and got a Voigt 35mm 1.2 and a Zeiss Sonnar 50mm 1.5 in return. Not quite as exciting as 4 lenses for 1 but I do feel I got value for my trade as I gave up 2 old slower 50s for 2 super fast and modern lenses. My old Leica lenses may be worth more in terms of money in the future but what matters to me are the shots i can take today.

It sounds like the more things you buy, the happier you get , so it's good that you sold your overpriced leica, because now you can own more things, which will bring you lots of happiness on the train to zurich.

Buy and use what you like...... Leica makes great lenses, BUT there are a lot of wonderful pictures that have been taken on Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Minolta, etc,etc lenses.
WHAT MATTERS IS THE PHOTOGRAPHER not the equipment..... I am having great fun and turning out nice pictures with a 1937 uncoated FED 50mm 2.0 lens at the moment.

Im siply saying Leica is way over priced and as i still have several Leica (M) lens i going to start selling

The Voigtlander lenes are as good and better than Leica of course a few Leica lenses are better just as certain equivelent Voigtlander are better

I mainly use a NEX with my old Leica used when i want to film B&W

I also use Jupiter and Inderstar lenses which give the image another dimention

The 12mm is the only one i bought because i had the money. As it happens its rated in all reveiws (i checked after buying)as much better than the same Leica lense

Im more than pleased with my purchase

AND YES IM MAKEING A POINT IM SAYING the kings cloths---Leica at todays prices are ove rated

Voigtlander, when i looked today are also heading for over price, with many on ebay selling or asking more that the NEW shop price

I think the problem is you're using Leica glass on a camera that was not designed for them. I had problems and poor results using my Leica lenses when I adapted them to M4/3 and Fuji. Others don't. I like using cameras together with the glass that are designed for them. Better results, but that is my personal opinion. Your mileage may vary. To make a blanket statement that Leica lenses are poor performers when you adapt them to another camera that is not designed for them, is just... well.... silly.

can you send me a link to a zeiss 24/1.8???

Of course but only new ones, the shop near the Bahnhofstr was closing down, its most likley selling womans cloths by now

I went to digitech.ch to look at price UNFORTUNATLY last year migro bought digitec (migro is the biggest retail bis in CH) so now it reflects the full RRP but in Swiss francs
As CH is not in Europe theres a lot less tax to add

Before you say "but Switzerlands expensive"yes it is but when theres a shop closeing or clearing top quality items can be found a good prices, sadly not often enough

Theres digifuchs.ch and microspot.ch no idea if they have Zeiss but the first might and can be less than digitec or more

Why are you bothering futzing around with all these manual lenses on a Sony NEX camera anyway?

Just use one of the AF lenses made for the camera and be happy. You won't see any different in your photos, and they'll probably be more spontaneous and focussed better.

There's no good reason for using M-mount lenses on these Sony cameras unless you're just a hobbyist/tinkerer.

You're reading too much nonsense on the internets.

(you can buy 10 Sony lenses with the same money, fill up a closet with them)

I did exactly this AND I also agree with some of the respondents.

I sold my 50 Summilux as well as an M8 around the same time. I bought primarily CV glass and a NEX-5n. Though I bought M-NEX adapters, I found that native E mount glass simply worked better.

Those M4-P's are also made of cheese, stink horribly if not CLA'd...oh and I've got a bridge to sell you at a great price, free shipping from Brooklyn, even...

Splaaash,

Well, I did a somewhat similar thing. I had Leica glass for my M6 and M4-P. Way too much invested in Leica glass. 21mm, 35mm, 50mm, both Summilux and Summicron, 90mm.

I sold all of the above Leica lenses, and the M6. Kept the M4-P. Yes they were really good. All were in like new condition, and were excellent performers.

With the money from those lenses, I purchased the following, brand new:

Zeiss ZM 35mm F2.8
Zeiss ZM 50mm F1.5

These are wonderful lenses. Optically as good as the Leica lenses. Different, but excellent.

With the remaining money I purchased a Nikon D600 Body. I already had an F3HP and Zeiss ZF lenses etc. I needed this kit for telephoto use. 300mm and up.

I am very happy with the Zeiss ZM and ZF lenses. Different from the Leica as far as how they image, but I really like them. Some say that are not quite as good mechanically as the Leica lenses, and this is probably true, but as I am not a professional, and the lenses do not get abused, they will last longer than I will.

Sometimes I miss my Leica glass, probably only because it is Leica, but in looking at 16x20 and larger prints I have made from 35mm Film, I have absolutely no complaints. Resolution, contrast, and colour accuracy is equal to the Leica lenses.

Akitadog
