Hi!

Wanted to say that I just sold my Contax IIa "color dial" :(
I didn't use it much (I just have too much cams, it had to go) but it hurts a lot to sell it. It's such a master piece. If you have one and don't have money problems, keep it :)

I understand you, I'm having terrible money problems right now and the only reason why I'm not trying to sell gear is because i need to find 150 € for tuesday. I'll have to ask a colleague or two who are generous enough to lend me money till the end of the month. Paypal, eBay and other stuff won't help.. *gives you a big fraternal hug*

I sold my Contax IIIa last year to fund other camera purchases. And mow I'm looking for a IIa - it's difficult not to own a Contax! Hopefully the cameras of our future will be even better than those of our past.

as much as i love gear, they are only things and sometimes we need to do what we need to do to survive.
these things can always be bought again when times are better.

but it's hard, i know.

here's to better times for all!

I feel it too, my black dial IIa went for the same reason. The canon 50/1.5 I got helped sort out the sonnar lust!

I find it helps to remind myself about the squinty viewfinder, and the awkward focusing wheel, but it was a beauty...

geez.. it seems like we're all feeling the pain these days.. I've been contemplating selling my IIa BD also.. but I can't bring myself to do it because it's a beautiful camera (more attractive than Leicas, IMO) and I don't think I could part with the Sonnar 50/1.5

Just remember that I'm trying to buy back into the "Contax Club." And I'd really love to find a IIa, either CD or BD, that's had Henry's spa treatment. So keep me in mind when it's time to sell!

mine is currently at no. 13 in Henry's waiting list.. which means it should be minty in about 5 months

I just agreed to buy my first Leica (IIIc). Of course, I'd prefer to own a contax, but nevermind :)

It's my present to myself with my first good wages that I should get next week. Once money times are better I think I'll save up and invest in a Henry Contax.

I empathise with you. I hate selling kit, but when times are hard you have to.

Hmm,i see it's not a good time to sell my contax... too many on the market... :D

ok just kidding. Luckily i don't HAVE TO sell it right now. But i still can't control it as i would like to.
I think my latest slide through it showed some slow shutter behaviour in the middle speeds. Most of the frames are overexposed. I can't possibly make the same mistake during several days.
Have to look into the problem.

thanks alot guys

mine was very reliable, speeds were perfect and all just the focusing was a bit tight but ok. oh well, that is something I must go through

Brett,

Is this your first "Henry camera?" If yes, you will be amazed at how thorough he is in restoring these old gems.

Who the heck is Henry? I love old Conaxes (Contax's? Contaxi?) and have been looking for one that has been restored.

Contaxen :)

Henry Scherer of zeisscamera.com has a reputation of best Contax repairsman around. His work is thorough, prices high and waiting list years long.

Henry completely overhauls Contax cameras - pretty much a complete disassembly and rebuild. Not inexpensive. But the result is excellent.
