"Sold" on RFF, now on eBay??

I have no connection to the Canon lens you mention, but it is probably not fair to jump to conclusions on it either. I once bought a lens on RFF, used it for a week or two, and then sold it on ebay, clearing almost exactly the same I paid on RFF. Maybe someone was looking to try out a Canon 1.5 an didn't like it?
 
I've bought stuff here which is now in my eBay pile. If the camera/lens is in a condition I'll stand behind, I'll generally offer it here. If it has issues, I'm more likely to put it up on eBay and describe it properly. Maybe irrational but I'd avoid selling anything with major issues inside this community - particularly as o have a hard time pricing broken things.
 
Normally when a ad is copied word from word and also the SAME photos then sold on another site it's a scam........well at least 98% of the time.

I caught that 1944 Leica IIIC K W.H. that was sold twice (I know the REAL owner) and also seems that Leica LHSA MP3 set's are really hot game items on the double ad scam latley.

Buyer beware!

No, no, I think you all misunderstand. The pictures and description are exactly the same. Is that not odd? Even if someone bought it, didn't like it, and then decided to resell it on eBay, why would you use the exact same description that someone else wrote?

It's possible that the original RFF seller wasn't getting any bites on RFF, so he marked it as sold and put it up on eBay.

I'm not trying to whistle-blow and say it is a scam; I just thought it a little odd.
 
Maybe he bought it and a nicer one came up that he wanted more. Haven't you bought something, and a few days later the same thing comes up in better condition for the same price.

Looking at the feedback on this eBay seller, he appears to sell camera goods which are toward the high end.

I'm pretty sure from analyzing feedback that he bought this lens purposely to resell on eBay for a profit. There is certainly nothing wrong with that. Capitalism is where you find it. eBayers "mine" forum classifieds, Craigslist and garage/estate sales all the time for "inventory" to resell. It looks very much to me like this is the sellers intention.

Frankly, it's quite lucrative. I constantly see deals on the RFF site where the price is lower than one might receive from a creative and well done eBay listing, and without scamming or lying.

The harsh words on this site regarding eBay are often unwarranted. While there are some scammers on eBay, the incidence is low, and most problems reported here can often be traced to a complainant who simply overlooked a few easy to follow rules regarding the auction site.

This looks very simply like a seller on eBay who shops various classifieds for inventory for his "business" and may be doing quite well, and quite honestly.

Remember that every feedback received on eBay stays with the buyers and sellers for the life of their account and can all be individually read.

I use the feedback. It's almost impossible to fake feedback over a long period of time. I look for time on the site... the join date is listed. I look for 99%plus feedback, spread proportionately over a long period of time. I never (NEVER) violate these rules and I simply will not buy from anyone below 99% feedback.

If one looks askance at any situation where a person or business buys and resells merchandise for a profit, then that person is simply not tuned into what makes a free market economy work at the very core.

As far as copying the ad word for word, it takes a lot of creative juice to make up all those listings. Why not use the effective ad that caught your eye in the first place. I looked at the listing and I surely would have used the very same copy. It's not like it's copyrighted.

Why being so negative immediately? Did you ask both seller on rff and seller on ebay questions about the item prior to starting a thread? Did someone is forcing you to buy those lens on ebay?
What if seller got sick of low ball offers on rff, give it up and went for the right price to ebay?

In my opinion it is the same seller. Remember, price on rff was very high. If purchased at rff and sold at ebay in auction there is risk that that the price on ebay will be lower..

Interesting thread to read... strange how people jump to such negative conclusions so quickly. Glad it was on the up and up though.
 
If I was 'Flat Twin' I'd feel a little affronted by this thread!

I advertised a couple of Zuikos in the classifieds and after a few days realised they were drawing no interest so listed them on eBay with the same pics and virtually the same description. I guess in the case of the Canon it was a lens that attracted attention so seeing it appear almost instantly on eBay arroused suspicion and scamming isn't exactly a rare occurence these days.

I managed to get scammed from the classifieds at p.net a while ago ... it's reassuring to know that you don't necessarily have to go to eBay to get fleeced! 😀

I don't understand what all the excitement is about. Nothing sounds terribly unusual. If someone was trying to buy and sell for profit it would save time to use the same pictures and description. Jim
 
I think some people just don't sell gear after buying it... so this is foreign to them. However, many here feel buying and selling within days is no big deal.
 
I think he didn't get any bites here, so he marked it "SOLD" and moved it to Ebay.
What's so unusual about that? Bigger audience over there.
