sold some prints

Nice Joe... The only prints I've ever really made were to give as presents... Now that I think of it, it's really the only time I've ever put any of my own shots in a frame. I don't even have any on my walls... i guess lately I've fallen into camera collector mode & barely spent any money on processing etc... You've given me a bit of a reminder why I have this hobby... Thanks!

Peter

peter, ya gotta get some prints up on the wall.
i have them at home too.

i hve started to get small, 5x7 prints made and i buy plain black frames at ikea and either add prints or change them out and reuse a frame.
show your stuff - look at your stuff - everyday

Hmm.. I dunno. Can't really place why I feel this way, maybe I'm weird. I've had people offer to buy some of my photos, happens on random occasion, but not often. It is flattering! But each time, I just couldn't bring myself to take their money. End up giving them away after I spend hours getting them printed and framed/mounted just right. And if I happen to see my stuff at a friend's house on their wall, it just feels weird, and although I'm proud and humbled, I sort of don't like it. *shrug*

way to go!

I am dying to sell some prints just dont know how

people arent into art you cant buy at ikea around here

joe: Great stuff, I'm very glad for that. I've sold some prints in the distant past. I had one series (of abandonded rail yards and train repair depots) that someone wanted to buy as a set. I don't know why, but he never completed the deal, and I was very sad because it would have been a nice chunk of change. The negs were 4x5 TX and APX, HC-110, fibre in Amidol, yadda, yadda. A lot of work went into them.

But when good things do happen, especially unexpectadly, it's great!

something i have not done in awhile.

a few months ago my old boss offered me a chunk of wall at work if i wanted to hang some photos.
i ended up hanging 8 prints and still have room for another 10 or so.

anyway, folks pass by them everyday and i get the odd comment about them still.

long story short, some people have been asking me about buying them and today i sold 6 small prints.

i may need to clean up / find some web gallery space so folks have a place to view more pics for a better selection.
(dreams about quitting his job and just selling prints)

joe

Good for you Joe!! I know that would be a great boost for my ego :D Some day I hope to follow in your footsteps

Congrats! It's a great feeling! I always enter the OC fair competition each summer here and put prices and such with no interest. Then this past summer I entered one with a not for sale note, and sold it twice!

Where in OC are you?? :) I've never been to the fair, and now I work just about 10 minutes from it.

Herzlichen Glueckwunsch Joe!!!!

Will it be enough for a new lens? ;-)

Well deserved!

Ciao

Doesn't it feel rewarding to have someone pay money to hang up on of your photos in his/her home? Congratulations. I wish that I would sell photos more often than I do.

ikea frames are basic but they are almost always in stock and they stay the same for years so i can go in and buy some and they match what's on the wall aready.
and i'm a simple kinda guy - don't care for ornate.

Congratulations! I'm jealous. Did you say that there is still some space on that wall? :D

I think the lesson to be learned from this is: "Exposure matters." No matter how good you are, you'll never sell if no-one sees your work.

Pretty cool news Joe! While you may have been more 'professional' at one point in your life, it's always gratifying when someone wants to purchase a work in a style which we love. That's not very clear... What I mean is in your old life, it sounds like you worked for clients, and while you were the artist, you still had to meet others expectations. It's always nice when you can have success on your own terms, which is what I think happened here.

In any case, congratulations!
