Today, I just scanned my latest films, I want to share these images with you guys : )

This time, I worked with my R2S, it's very comfortable and nice camera !
I'm afraid I wouldn't use my S2....😎

Really nice shots! I have a NHS Special Edition Bessa R2S with a Heliar S 50 on it´s way in the post and the examples you show here makes me pretty comfortable that I will enjoy using it this Summer!

Good examples of the strengths of the focal length. The first shows the advantage of having a large aperture.

Thanks for posting! I like the swirl bokeh effect in photo 1! How close were you focused in that shot?

I shot a roll with my Millenium 50/1.4 on an S2 last weekend and just got the negs developed. I'll post a few shots in a day or two.

That 35 Nikkor is sure a nice looker, the background in photo 1 (framing) really adds to the effect with such a sharp lens. Nice color in all the photographs too!

Lately, I tried many times to take show swirl bokeh shots with my 3.5cm,
Now I've just little understood about it.

See my terrible drawing 😀 , (but it's better than my poor English!)

If focus length is longer than 0.9m, DOF become deeper and bokeh
will be disappear.So when I want to make swirl bokeh, I usually set
an aparture at 1.8~2.0, and try to keep a distance between 0.9m~1.0m

finally, back ground condition and distance is very important too.

Really wanna see 5cm/1.4 2000's shot.
I'm afraid I can't wait until Jon posts his shots !

This test pic was taken with 3.5cm/1.8 under 'ideal' condition.
in the forest, 0.9m, wide open, back ground was sky and leaves

Your test shot is of the most dangerous background there is.

Remarkable that the photographer in the illustration gets by with such skinny legs.

and about illustration, thin legs are not a problem, because even they have grey skin!! 😱

Nice example of "swirl bokeh" due to strongly undercorrected sperical aberration, which makes the zone of sharpness move backwards from center to the corners, making the distant background looks "less sharp" in the center and "more sharp" (less dissolved) towards the edges. It's not welcome at every motive but your portrait benefits from this effect. Most people prefer a steady unsharp background when it comes to bokeh.

I noticed this behavior in a strong way with a Schneider Xenon 1.9/50 of 1952 and some 1950's Takumars, the 1.9/83 and 2.4/58 (the 2.0/58 don't show it at all). All of them were somewhat "pushed for speed". The Canon 2/35 RF shows it in a similar way, but less than your example of the Nikkor 1.8/35. I didn't noticed it with Sonnars.

Here's some from the roll of Fuji Superia 100 print film I shot last Sunday. From memory all shots were taken wide open at 1/30 to 1/60 sec. The lens was of course the Millenium 50/1.4 on an S2.

Just a quick note about the Millenium 50/1.4 .... unlike the original Nikkor-S 5cm, this lens (like the Olympic Nikkor-S from the '60s) is actually marked in mm.

Your shots show us what's the "definition of razor sharp", pretty interesting. I think Millenium 50mm/1.4(Now I wrote in mm ~keke) is more sharp than AF 50mm/1.4, How do you think about this?

And Saiseto, actually photographer eyes in the diagram are wide opened.
But it looks closed, because I have very thin and small eyes. 🙂

Yes, I think the Millenium 50/1.4 is sharper than the Nikkor AF 50/1.4, especially at wide apertures like f1.4 - f2. I would even say that the Millenium 50/1.4 is the best 50mm lens (including both RF and SLR) from Nikon ever. Also, another strong point of this lens is that its really hard to make it flare. Notice in two of the shots I posted above that I'm shooting against the light shining in the window. This lens handled the difficult lighting conditions easily.

Leica users have to pay $3,000 to get the same performance! And that is just for the lens 😉

Beautiful lenses, and nokton 50/1.4 is much bigger than I've thought. Here's the good news, I'll get my brand new millenium 50/1.4 in a week, from japan! (Many thanks to gregory)
But... how could I wait until it arrives in korea! (I'm not a patient person 😀)

35/1.8 2005 and millenium 50/1.4 and S2, I hope to use these stuff until I die.
