I wouldn't object to a Leica logo being used on M bodies if it looked like this! The red dot is too garish for my tastes, which is why I replaced it with black on my M6. I'm not going to add anything to my M-P, though...

2 month ago a guy sold a Fuji X100T in the German DSLR forum, modified with a red Leica logo :bang: he got so many **** storm PN's that he finally deleted the photo in the advertisement 😀 Taped cameras are somehow the other side of this spectrum, understandable if you're a professional working in a war zone, but at home? Where is the sense? Because the only sense I can imagine is against thieves, but there its absolut useless, a professional sees directly what kind of camera you use, tape does not help there. Its kind of taping the Ferrari logo on a 488 in the hope nobody steels you car then. Best is taping a Leica Q and then put it in a brand new chocolate leathered Billingham Bradley bag, really clever, saw this a few weeks ago here in BCN.
On the other hand, I would most probably tape a Sony camera or a car from Honda so I better stop judging 🙄

Then you know for sure the reason too, thats a different story than taping logos or brand names, still can't see there any reason to do so except the one I wrote before or that amateurs want to look like professionals, was a kind of hype a few years ago.

Soon as I get home, I'm taping over the Sony logo on my little A6000 and replacing it with a red Leica logo. It'll be awesome!

If amateur wants to look pro with his consumer DSLR the grip is added.

Good move! I don't think the ad had the disclaimer that the camera in the picture is not included with the sale of the decal. Maybe you'll get a nice surprise in the mail 🙂

DAG sells black dots to replace the red dots. Is a black dot lower key? Sure it is. Does red stand out on a black camera? Sure. Screams "I'm a RED DOT! Look at me!" I bought my M4-2 because it had no red dot... and the price was sweet for trying an RF. After it passed the test and the handheld meter was beginning to wear out some of its welcome, I bought a black M6 TTL... and a black dot.

The thing is, 99.999% of people have absolutely no idea what this red dot, black dot stuff means. Personally, I always thought it was excess paranoia to worry about the dot since no one I ever met cared. But some camera owners apparently do.
Only once in my entire life did anyone remark on a Leica camera I owned, and that was actually an R body (R5 w/ an R 90 Summicron, and that sure was a fine lens). That camera had L E I C A written on it in big letters, so that alone, red dot or no, was like an advertisement. The gentleman that commented on it happened to teach a photography course at a local college, and his comment was more about running around w/ a $1200 set up slung over my shoulder than the perceived status or quality. For what it's worth, that thing had some serious shutter lag, along w/ a mirror that went "whomp", so when I finally gave up on R bodies and put my Summicron on a $20 Nikon N8008s, my keeper hit rate improved dramatically by getting away from a Leica camera.

A while back I did the same thing… taped over my Volkswagen’s logos and replaced them with Rolls Royce ones.
Car goes faster but the mpg is way down. 😀

I bought two of DAG's black dots (one spare) for my black paint M6 - but never could get the original red dot off the darn thing. 😱
Even if I don't like the red dot much, putting black tape over it would feel like I was suffering from some sort of Magnum-aspiration delusion.
