Some E-P2 images from a recent shoot

I shot these images in the middle of a lifestyle shoot today. I wanted to see how the E-P2 would handle itself. I was shooting with the Canon 1DsMkII and for fun grabbed the E-P2, put it on AE/AutoISO, dialed in f2, focused, shot a quick burst, grabbed the 1DsMkII and kept shooting.

I did some corrections in LR3, curves, post-crop vignetting, color sat, contrast. It has not been into Photoshop yet for retouching, but if selected I'll post the retouched version as well.

Lighting was available light, mixed sun/clouds, under a near opaque canopy, two Calif Sunbouncers for fill. E-P2, Canon Sonnar 50mm f1.5 at f2, ISO1000, 1/125th.

There are some issues with the image, but overall I'm pleased seeing how it came from a digital camera, m4/3 chip, and a 50 year old lens.

Canon 50/1.5 - Damn! I just can't seem to get my own hands on one, but everyone else around here seems to have one! Anyway, grumblings aside, the shots are nice, the bokeh what I'd like, with some clipping I would expect in the highlights - (or it might be my crappy monitor)
 
Yes, there is some clipping. The setup was metered for my Canon DSLR, and not the E-P2. I haven't calibrated the E-P2 and meter yet, so the images were slightly overexposed. It was a quick 'let me see what happens' scenario, and I just grabbed the camera, quickly adjusted it, and shot a few images. I wasn't going to change the lighting to balance it for the E-P2 just for that test.

I do like the Canon Sonnar 50/1.5. Very nice lens, built like a tank, heavy but still well balanced on the camera, and I really like shooting with a manual focus lens and the EVF. Much more than I had anticipated actually. It gives me a more natural SLR feel to the camera, than looking at the LCD panel. I love having the option to do both.

Here is its current incarnation with the 50mm mounted. I'll use it sans EVF with the 20mm pancake lens, preset focus and rely on DOF, for street photography.

I'm going into town tomorrow night to some night shooting. I'll be leaving my DSLR gear and only taking the E-P2, 20mm 1.7, 50mm 1.5, EVF, and a table tripod. I'm curious to see what I can do with such a minimal setup, and the quality I'll be able to get from shooting handheld, wide open, relying on high iso and image stabilization. I want to see how far I can push it and get decent results. I'll post the images in a new thread for those interested with the details

The third image was deleted on Flickr since it was so close to the others. I'll remove the link to the third image.

If I decide to sell mine, I'll let you know so you have first shot at it. But I wouldn't hold your breath. I really like mine! :)

I'll stay tuned. Sounds very interesting.

I like the idea of no EVF on the Pen with the 20mm. I may try something similar. Never occurred to me to do that.
 
Also, what does the scene look like when using the EVF? Is it like watching a TV screen or your natural eye as in an optical VF?
 
The Olympus EVF is amazing- closer to an optical viewfinder than anything else that I have seen. With a 40mm lens on the camera, you can leave both eyes open and get "stereo-Vision" like with a Nikon RF or Canon P.

I need to try my Canon 50/1.5 on it. HOWEVER: for the m43 format, the Nikkor 5cm LTM lenses have a distinct advantage. They focus to 18inches. I've only used this feauture with the EP2, trying to scale focus them at the minimum range is difficult.
