Inspiring story, repurposing of facilities and new jobs for long term Kodak employees.

But the takeaway of the article is that film is completely dead - or did I miss something?

I think you may have missed something--namely, this paragraph:

Kodak in 2014 announced plans to sell the business park but took it off the market in the spring and has now made it a separate division. The decision followed Kodak's commitment to grow its remaining motion picture and commercial film business, which requires a hefty 4 million square feet of space, Alt said.

Good news indeed.

Ultimately the jobs (and lives) of the people in the areas surrounding the factory are much more important than film production.

Besides, even if Kodak chose to keep producing film, they need to scale down, which means these facilities they now lease out won't be used anyway.

Good to know something will survive. It would be even better if Kodak finally could learn from Ilford how to make B&W films that dry flat. It is never too late to learn.

I'm glad they're letting some small businesses use their buildings. The other option would be to bulldoze them and build housing, or retail spaces. I think it's funny that of the 58 businesses, they profile the marijuana dispensaries that are trying to get licensed. From creating film to capture your life's moments, to creating drugs to numb life's moments.

Good story for sure. I didn't stay up with the BK but do I remember correctly that they sold off the photography film production?
