I finished a roll of film in my FED 4 this morning and was having some trouble re-winding the film after.
In act, I thought I had finally rewound the film and opened the camera to find about 6 or so frames worth of film still on the take up spool:bang:
So, the beginning of that roll is gone. Upsetting but not the end of the world.
When I looked further, the screw holding the rewind fork appears to be gone.
After a closer look, I realize that there isn't a screw as I first thought but that the fork had come unscrewed from the shaft above it. Which I don't understand as re-winding would seem to tighten the fork?
Any ideas why this would have happened?
More importantly, should I loc-tite the fork?

That's not the rewind of the "common" FED 4 - it has a thumbwheel on the side not a knob on top. However, the spring, washer and fork need to be there. I don't see why it would come undone but I also don't see a problem in using a non-permanent loctite on it.Hi rbiemer,
can you confirm that the rewind knob has all these pieces?
(Laika's stuck post)
EDIT: I see the post is modified now but the picture was useful...

The washer, small spring and fork are all present--I don't think I lost any parts.
I am going to run another roll of film through this camera and see if it happens again before I do anything else.
I'm wondering if the shaft is binding or bent such that when I advance the film, the shaft is not turning but the fork is unscrewing.
