I was told, on pretty reliable authority, that the new line of WA lenses would be "substantially less expensive at the same quality". Now that sounds interesting.

must be for that digital M7 thing that coming out. Lets just hope its not some dedicated digital lenses like canon's efs lenses, but somehow I doubt leica would do that. Cheap is good.

Well, it was Leica that said so, so I suppose they were talking Leica lenses.....
Sorry, by WA I did mean Wide-angle, the ones they announced for the M8Dig (or whatever they will call the thing).
Cheap - well, maybe not that. Let's say less expensive.

They will be compatible with analogue camera's according to Leica

Well-known
So they decided that they need to do somthing about the prices? Good. Must be the competition from Zeiss.
Lets hope that they actually manage to get the price down for that M-digital body too, so I might consider it. At least if they hit the same price level as the RD-1.
Hopefully the body will work decently well with most current lenses too, I do not think I can motivate myself to buy a body at that price level and new lenses...
But no big problem, there is always film as a workaround for my existing cameras.

I hadn't heard there was any sort of new line of lenses under development. When will they be appearing, any idea? (I'm sure they'll still be above the CZ prices.)

The same quality as in both mechanical and optical? Sounds really interesting. Any info on a release date for these lenses?

Wishful thinking considering that Leica is on the brink of bankruptcy.

Sadly to say, unless they're less expensive than used Leica lenses, I'm out.

That could be a hint that Leica's going to outsource the production of those lenses.

My M5s need red dots!
Think also about Leica's concept of "inexpensive" (which probably would place things at the $700-level).

The NW will rise again.
Somehow I doubt that Leica is going to come out with cheaper lenses...unless they are going to made by cosina.

I find love for acronyms fascinating (Captain)
Speaking of acronyms, would the authority happen to go by the initials of E.P.?jaapv said:I was told, on pretty reliable authority

You mean the outsourcing of the Zeiss name to Cosina. Price reduction isn't all that it's cracked-up to be. I'm not saying that anything expensive is good. But also lowering prices no matter what the cost isn't good.hth said:So they decided that they need to do somthing about the prices? Good. Must be the competition from Zeiss.
If you don't want to pay for Leica prices, there's always Voigtlaender. And Voigtlaender produces very good glass too, so there's no need to complain about Leica.
"the new" Zeiss is more expensive than Cosina...how come they're not getting that rap too? Hmmm...
