hi
i am using the nikon coolscan V software ..
normally whatever is seen in the "processed" tab is what will be the outcome in the scanned image.
i am trying to scan XP2 and i notice that the images coming out are "sharpened"
i did not set an unsharp mask in my tool palette
i set the digital GEM to 3 or 4 to reduce grain and make portraits smoother
but somehow, the images coming out are sharpened and its showing the blemishes in the skin
the ROC is set to zero and there is ICE on(normal) applied
the funny thing is that, when i scan colour negs, what i see in the "processed" tab is what i get
this isnt so for the xp2
i wonder what i am doing wrong
help please??

As I understand it, XP2 Super doesn't have the same orange base as color negative film. Try turning ICE off. It doesn't work with the XP2 Super negatives.

ICE technology will work on XP2 Super. When I used NikonScan with this film type I set ICE, GEM and ROC all to off and had no problems. The sharpening seems strange though as none of those three acronyms should sharpen the scan. I know it sounds obvious, but double check the unsharp mask settings after you have deselected ICE/GEM/ROC... other than that I can't add much more.

Wayne, my understanding is that digital ICE does not work with silver, which XP2 is not.
