Some kind of chromatic aberration?

New M9 with old 50/2 v2. Daughters hair (bit out of focus) shot outside at 2.8 in sunlight looks alien, with all these magenta and green dots. Is this spherochromatism? Can't really notice it at normal mag, but if one were to want to correct it, can that be done in Lightroom? Aperture?

That looks like color aliasing due to the Bayer pattern Mosaic filter. If image resolution exceeds 36Line-Pairs per millimeter on an M9 or M8, errors in the interpolation used to create the color image can occur. Hair is a good candidate.

DSLR's deal with this problem by putting a filter over the Sensor to kill high-frequency in the image. The M9 and M8 do not use an anti-aliasing filter.

Some samples with my ZK Sonnar at F1.5 and F4, showing the increased resolution at F4 brings in aliasing. Wide-open at F1.5, resolution is below the aliasing threshold.

I get this with the M8 as well. Use a less sharp lens. 😉 lol

Never saw this on my M8, except at high ISO (noise?), but also rarely shot below the fastest or 2nd fastest stop on the lens. I did see moire once, but that was with a lens sharper than any Leica lens.

I have one KMZ J-3 that will do this at F1.5. It is the best that I've used. It must be pushing better than 50LP/mm center, wide-open.

Brian, you are amazing. Just checked your link, diffraction creeps in when an aperture opening (regardless if it's Ultra-large format or 35mm I assume??) is about 3mm or less? Great to know!

i own 3 zeiss lenses. all 3 do that all the time on the M9.
