Hello there, seems like I just got a good deal on a MIR camera: ebay link.

I was just wondering if the Industar 22 will fully collapse here and if I have to "Leica" the film?

I dont know about you guys but I find collapsible lenes to be way too cool. The russians didnt make any faster collapsible lenes did they? Also I have a question about wide angle lenses, is the Jupiter 12 my only russian option (I think the MIR lens is only for SLRs)?

Thanks

yes,the industar will collapse completely and no the back comes completely off...no "Leica leader" needed

AFAIK, the Jupiter-12 is the only FSU LTM 35mm wide angle. However, there's also the Orion f/6 28mm which is much smaller and a superb lens........ at roughly $150 or more when you can find them.

There's also the 20mm Russar - considerd to be excellent, but very rare and expensive...

Ill probably pick up a 12 then, in a little bit. How much do they go for now (as not to get ripped off on ebay)?

The MIR is considered by many to be one of the best cameras in the Zorki 4 series. Maizenberg, the repair guru, said the Mir is very reliable because it lacks the complicated slow speed shutter train of the Zorki 4. The speed dial only list speeds to 1/500 but many of the Mirs actually have the 1/1000 speed. It just isn't marked on the dial.

The Jupiter 12 is a great medium wide angle lens. You also can ofter find black Jupiter 8 f2 lenses in like-new condition for a song.

Matter of fact, I have a Mir loaded with Tri-X that I plan to do some shooting with this weekend.

Hey, Walker. How are things with the Terps?

Heh, I was born in latvia. The first camera I really used was my grandfathers Zorki 1. In fact Im going to use that cameras Industar lens on this MIR when it comes to my door, heh.

The Orion looks interesting, but its a bit expensive (and a tad slow), the 12 seems like it would be a better deal at the moment. Ill put something up in the classifieds at some point.

Mine has a small black dot on the dial where the 1000 would normally appear. I've read - but can't confirm - that those with the dot have 1/1000 while those without the dot don't. Perhaps others who own MIRs without the dot can comment.

Not so hot this season and much rides on the outcome of tomorrow's game against VA Tech. Truthfully, it's been a disappointing season as they have so much talent but only seem to gel when the play teams like Dook who they beat twice this season.

I think tomorrow will decide whether we go to the Big Dance or not. Of course, we could surprise everyone again and win the Conference Tournament Championship! :D

Mine doesn't have the dot, but it seems to have the secret speed setting.
