some odd things about this M9

One is that the glass over the new custom kodak sensor, which blocks some IR, but not all. Hmm, I wonder if this is a good thing?

It's convenient to be able to uv/ir filter, or to not filter with 35mm fl and greater, especially for M8 and M9 users using same glass, but for shorter than 35, you should not use a uv/ir filter or will get color shifts in corners? This indicates to me, there is some standard correction being applied, that may not be defeatable?

Oh, and there is still the issue that some black synthetic materials will show up as magenta - this is OK, the RD1 and many pro DSLRs do this as well.

Other than those issues, it appears to be a great FF M body, I'm happy with the M8 and can't justify an M9, but expect prices to drop over time, especially if/when a m9.2 or something comes along.

I tested an M9 today, and I found an odd thing with the camera.
First I'll say that the rep said Solms told him the frimware was the test frimware and not updated.

That being said, the cameras buffer was SLOW. It took a long time to view the picture after being shot, and when zooming in to view a closer detail of the image it took a while to adjust and load.

Again the rep said it was test frimware and not the one which will be with the camera next week when they begin shipping. So hopefully with the newer frimware the buffer is not as laggy.

Did you notice the shutter sound of M9? Was it quite as M8.2?

It seemed that the soft release mode combine with the discrete mode made it quieter than the M8.2.

I think that M8.2 can have soft release mode through firmware upagrade too.

I'm not sure. Either way the Leica rep had a brand new M8.2 for comparison and the M9 seemed quieter. But I don't know the frimware on the M8.2
