These are frrom long defunct magazine titles. Some of these are for non rangefinder cameras but they may interest people

If you look at camera tests in Modern Photography in the 60s and 70s, you can see just by how much magazines have "dumbed down"
Even Nation Geographic, just compare an edition from the 70's with todays glorified picture magazine.
Perhaps its how we educate today, people are too lazy to read, information has now to be in picture or graphic chart format.
Saves me a fortune though, I can "read " them through in the store🙄

Very sound points. And I suspect the reasons you give are on the money too.

Sad really. I read a book recently which said that there are at least 70 or 80 million people in the USA alone, who are marginally / functionally illiterate or worse - too poorly educated to be able to read more than the most simple of documents. They may be able to sign their names but if its on a contract would have no idea about what they are signing their names to. Hence I suppose our recent global financial hiccup. They may be able to read a newspaper headliine but would not be able to read what is below it - or would not want to do so.

Probably something similar could be said for UK, Australia etc although I suspect that the good old US is particularly bad due to successive governments not properly funding public education properly.

I suppose this is one reason why cameras need to be smarter - their users are dumber!

Incidentally I really like the way they graphed results in the first article below andin some of the others. Much easier to read and interpret than a normal MTF graph as we use today. hmmm Perhaps I am dumbing down too.

In the UK we have God knows how many digital camera magazines, but they seem to be owned by just a few companies. Handy though if you miss an article in one, you can catch it a few months later in another magazine.
As for education Peter, even our politicians talk in sound bites, and are completely unable to give a direct answer to a direct question, probably why they had so much "bother" with their expenses claims!!!
