I bought a semi broken Canonet GIII 17 QL with a gooey light seals, a cracked rangefinder window and a back that would pop open if pressed in the right spot and no battery. After some alcohol wipes, ignoring the cracked rangefinder since it still works and is accurate and some "persuasion" to the back (i.e. I bent it with my hands until it stayed locked) I have a great little beater camera with great specs. Here are some photos. The photos on water were taken while I was kayaking in Wells NY, the dirt road is my driveway. All on the speed priority mode of the camera. Film was Kodak 400 Gold.

I think I did pretty well for $2.

Good camera, good pictures. What monetary value would you attach to the things you did to get the camera in working shape? If nothing else, it must give you much pleasure.

I did almost nothing to get this thing into working shape, merely used some alcohol to clean up the goo on the back of the camera (still haven't replaced the light seals) and some lens cleaner on the lens and then some brute force on the back. Took me maybe 20 minutes to clean up.
