Some questions about a Rolleicord III Just Purchased

Lol, onto the actual help people are providing. That guy, amirate guys?

I was thinking of using a razor blade to scrape the excess leather and glue, but the use of aluminum as the body makes me a bit nervous to attempt that.

With the camera ready for use in a normal position you grab that lever and move it to the right completely, that cocks the shutter. With the very same lever, a gentle touch to the left side should release the shutter.
That's how it works in my Cord V although I feel there is some resistance in the action; may be the age of lubricants. Also this may make its touch and use a bit rough and less obvious.

I'd use lighter fluid to remove the glue and use a hobby knife (Xacto) with a scraper blade.

Why is IPA so hard to get in Britain and Ireland ?

Not sure why it's that way. As far as NI, I can't seem to just walk into a store and get it. Chemists only have it. And unfortunately, Amazon won't ship it here. I'll give the lighter fluid a shot. Thanks for the suggestion.

Welp, ordered a new skin for it. So that'll be here in a few weeks. Ordered a bunch of tools as well. I travel a lot for the TV show I'm on, so my main maintenance kit is in US, so unfortunately I needed to order new tools here in the UK. Once I get everything in, I'll have a go at taking it apart and doing some heavy cleaning etc.

Dude. You're pretty arrogant for someone asking for help.
Both of these guys offered you immediate and correct help, while you just bashed them.
The first thought i had when looking at your issue was, also, "wait, that's not how you fire a rolleicord, you fire a rolleicord with a lever, the hole you have is for a cable release".

x- and S.H. are guys that know quite a lot and always help to the best of their rather broad knowledge. I suggest next time you read what they reply 😀

Chubb,

I don't know what is so hard to understand about Sarcophilus' post. You have two ways to fire the rollie. The first is with the cocking arm. Pull it back after tensioning the shutter releases the shutter. Simple as that. The second is with a cable release. You have a tiny accessory that screws into the cable release and acts like a button. It is unnecessary. You don't need it to fire the shutter.

yup.......

Got the rubbing alcohol (IPA) today so took the viewfinder hood off and cleaned the mirror, fresnel and all of the frame. It's amazing how much difference it makes in the ground glass/mirror component once it's been cleaned. Superbly bright now. I can't imagine how much of a difference a bright screen replacement makes. May need to consider that for my Rolliflex. Something to ponder.

The process of getting the rough glue and leather bits off will be intense but worth it to get a better adhesion surface for the new skin that's coming.

Overall, I'm pleased with this little camera. Looking forward to taking it out for a round of shots.

I installed a Rick Oleson screen in my Rolleicord III, and it's significantly brighter especially in the corners. One downside is that it doesn't seem to "snap" into focus as easily as it did before. I've heard that Maxwell screens are great, but at a much higher cost.

Thanks for the insight. I've looked at both options before and yeah, the price for the Maxwell isn't something I'm excited about. I'll have to ponder it.
