Some [quick] photos with M8 today

Hi folks,

there was a Leica demo day at a local camera store and you could shoot with M8 or the R9 w. digital back for 45min. Here some shots with my own lenses 28, 35, 75. Nothing spectacular of course given the short time and handling the camera for the first time...
The pics are resized to 800x600 and saved as jpeg. no tweaking whatsoever. Original shots saves as DNG & jpeg fine. I could upload larger files. My first upload trial ever so bear with me.:angel: Generally I'm sligthly disappointed about the handling. I guess image quality is great as far as I can judge it. I've a Rapidgrip & Sling on my MP and it just feels as an extention of my hand. The M8 w/o a grip is kind of ..? Just something doesn't feel right. And due to the opening of the right side of the bottom plate you have to buy the Leica grip and plate combo. No Rapidgrip anymore 🙁 .

Yup, I agree. The Leica grip for the M8 is the very first accessory I will order. I have shot so much with M4-P & M7 cameras wearing a Leica Motor Drive that a "naked" M-body just doesn't feel right anymore.

Hope to have my M8 beastie within the next week...

Yes Grober,
you're right. The signs have been shot with the 2/75. I totally forgot to mention in the starter that the smaller view finder magnification of 0.68 together with the 1.3 cropping factor makes the anyhow little bit difficult frame edges (not lines) for the 75 even more difficult to handle for composition. Also the focus patch is for whatever reason not as "snappy" as in my MP.

You've said exactly what I experienced when I played with the camera back several weeks ago. Perhaps I was expecting the heavens to open up and drop rays of light all over me, but none of that happened *shrug* 😛 It is, after all, just a digital camera! 🙂

Hi folks,
these were just the most interesting things around (exactely: grab shots). And of course some didn't turn out as expected due to user error 😉 So selection is limited and just to show some shots with the M8, as few might have handled it so far using an own SD card. I could post details ISO etc. once I have more time. The Pepsi truck is the highest ISO setting 2500 as far as I remember, I'll recheck the exif data. Lenses of course are not coded. Strange mode : if you are far off the actual EV with your shutter/arpet. combination in manual mode the display is dead, no indication whatsoever. This was when switching from Auto to manual time setting. Opening up then finally the metering indicator arrow/spot turned on. Confusing at first... is it dead ? does it work at all ? what am I doing wrong ?

The shot of the Pepsi truck reminds me of the image tonal quality from my Panasonic DVX100 camcorder...

I don't know your camcorder but at ISO2500 I guess this is not bad at all. There was no post processing at all, just resizing. Unfortunately my time slot was afternoon, so no real avail. light pictures that really needed this setting. Just to try it.
