The small town I live in now is called "Wilson, North Carolina." It boasts a 'real' professional baseball team, the Tobs. "Tobs" is short for 'tobacco,' which is a staple crop around here. The Tobs have a mascot. Slugger is an um, tobacco worm. Really.

Slugger, the Tobs Mascot

So, this then.

Slugger faces my CV Bessa R with 90mm A. Schacht lens and f5.6 @ 1/60th. Available light, Fujicolor 400 color print film, scanned on KM Dimage Scan Dual IV. I love the look on the little kid's face.

Best Regards,

I am going to need a couple weeks before I get back to a Norwich Navigators game, but I will post a picture of their mascot, an Allegator.

Why an allegator, in Connecticut, no idea. At least the little worm has some significance to the home town fans.

Wow, Slugger has a tobacco logo on his shirt! Perhaps North Carolina is one place I could smoke my cigars without being made to feel like a social outcast?

It is kind of ironic that I would move to the state where tobacco is king - cigarette prices are the lowest I've ever seen - and then quit smoking. Why, they practically give you a pack when you get your license plates changed.

The local "minor league" baseball team here in Prince William County, Virginia used to call themselves the "Yankees". They quickly changed their name the the "Cannon's". And yes, the mascot is a Cannon.

Would you call him "a little worm" to his face? :)

I have a gator watching my back, It's all good.:D

Minor league baseball is really great though. Very fan friendly, easy quality time with the family, and relatively inexpensive. The last game I went to was in the late afternoon. Sammy got a little over tired, needing for a nap, so I moved our seats down the right field line where we were able to sit right along the field respecting the folks we were sitting around as they didn't need to be distracted by a hyper 4 year old. A foul ball went right over our heads into the bullpen next to us. When the inning ended the bullpen catcher walked out onto the field with the ball and handed it to Sammy. He really isn't old enough to have appreciated the gift appropriately then, but we play with the ball all the time and he always talks about the Navigators.

I'm sad that they've stopped making Kool Regulars (non-filtered) L. Ron Hubbard is, I'm sure, rolling in his grave...
