Some Zeiss Contessa Photos

Lovely shots both b&w and color -- I'm going to get a hold of some of that Provia 400 myself, I just last week discovered it on the B&H list (a NYC supplier) and can't imagine why I never noticed it before.

It's interesting to me that we have fora set up and enhanced and doubled down to debate film v digital but we never discuss the, to me, much more dramatic and affecting difference of b&w and color. There is a whole different character to the shots -- not just in tone or effect but even in what subjects you chose to photograph or, more likely, the ones you chose to post. Anyway a lovely demonstration.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Yes I really like Povia 400. When it comes to colour negative photography I prefer kodak (Portra and Ektar) to Fuji by a mile. For slides I like Fuji Velvia 50, but wanted to try a 400 iso film and read good reviews of the new Provia. Apart from the fact it is not cheap (compared to neg film) it's beautiful. And scans really well.

Anyway, today's blog entry is a photo of the Contessa itself, so thought I should link here.

Nice work with the camera. One small change. It's a Zeiss Ikon Contessa, rather than a Zeiss Contessa. It can be a somewhat confusing distinction between the two. Plus, Zeiss Ikon made cameras but not lenses, and Carl Zeiss made lenses but not cameras. Even today, it has no camera-making facilities.

The folding Contessa is an excellent camera although the front-mounted shutter release does take a bit of practice to master so that you can release the shutter and not move the camera downward.

Also, was that a 50mm Planar on the M8.2 or a 40mm Planar?
