something funny and stupid from Rockwell

I like KR for his writing on film cameras, lens comparisons with photos (center and edge at various apertures), and some historical perspectives about cameras and lenses. He's also got the best Nikon lens/body compatibility chart on the internet.

He doesn't take things too seriously and likes pulling people's legs.

Yep, this comparison test he did with the CV 40mm f2 is very revealing:

Especially since I have the CV and the Nikon 45 2.8!

a lot of love here for Ken. Go to DPreview if you want vitriol.

I remember the days on his website of "real raw"...a riot! I have a crappy android phone....but plans for that to be my next purchase, not a digicam (well maybe a digicam if it can acquired super cheap...maybe OLy m4/3?). D7100 being repurposed now for digitizing negs.

Apple and Samsung packing their phones with computational sophistication. Even Digilloyd posts his iPhone panoramas with his 10000$ digi MF reviews.

You can't "fondle" a digicam or expect one to be in your possession 5-10 years from now. But you can...a LTM with collapsible lens.

Arguing phone vs camera is as dumb as arguing digital vs film. Pick and choose what you want, and let your images speak for themselves.

If I was going to spend several thousand pounds on a new camera or lens (thinking about Leicas, btw), then I'd read as much as possible about the beast before handing over my hard earned cash. Experience of KR is that we usually agree and, more important, he doesn't talk numbers and nothing else all the time. Numbers* have nothing to do with photography...

* With the exception of f/5.6, of course...

actually i think the fuji shot is the best of the four. boring palms shots But oh well. Also depends on the screen etc one is using to view this crap.

Pherdinand, can you explain this for me " Also depends on the screen etc one is using to view this crap". I have underlined the most puzzling part.

Asking because I can see that many people would be interested to learn how the Canon, Fuji, iPhone and Leica compare. And few would bother or perhaps know how to go about testing them; even supposing that they could get their hands on all four at once.
