It's a funny old game. I got into this home development lark 4 or 5 months ago, and started with Ilford's recommendation of DDX. Everything I developed looked lovely to me.
Then I started to experiment. I got some Rodinal and also some Diafine. Both of these seem way more economical than DDX, but I've decided I like DDX more than anything I've tried.
I've got some Acufine and D76 which I haven't mixed up yet but I find myself pausing and wondering why I don't stick with DDX. The answer is cost. It's more expensive than anything else I've found.
Is there something similar in behaviour to DDX that is a little cheaper? (I really hope someone says D76 or Acufine!)

Excellent, thanks guys. I've ordered some Microphen which I will try once my DDX runs out. It's less than a third of the price of DDX. I couldn't find Clayton F76+ in the UK.
Hopefully dissolved Microphen will store as well as DDX?

Once yyou dissolve it "break" the gallon into smaller containers.
IMHO soda bottles (plastic type) work well.

DD-X may be expensive, but it keeps really well. As an economy measure I tried Paterson developers, but the short shelf life drove me back to DD-X. Now it's that or Rodinal for me.
