Something Rare? (28 Elmarit)

I stumbled my way into a Version I 28mm Elmarit (Wetzlar Black Paint). It's in great shape, although I wish the owner hadn't inscribed his DL number on the underside 😡

Are these relatively rare? What's a good estimate on its worth after a DAG CLA?

From what I'm told, around $2k. I have/had one as well.

They are pooping out from time to time on eBay. Use completed auctions in search filter to find out for how much.

By the time you'll get it back from DAG, its price will be inflation adjusted by 20%.

not seeing this particular lens in completed sales. only one i can find is a ratty one in austria for $3k. based on my (limited) research, the wetzlar version is quite rare and highly sought after by collectors.

the good news on the DL inscription is that it's on the aperture ring. i might be able to find a replacement from a canadian version.

It requires someone who collects such lenses to get the price above $3000. Version II sells for less than $2000.

I purchased a V1 new back in the day and later traded it for a new V2 when it came out. Neither were great lenses. They weren't bad but just Ok. The V2 was an improvement but still fell short. The 21 f3.4 Super Angolan had similar vignetting and was better overall. I'm a fan go the 21 SA 3.4 but couldn't warm up to the V1 28. Vignetting improved with the v2 but still was just OK.

I don't think it's really rare but not many samples are floating around. As mentioned collectors have snagged them because it's a 1st version.
