Something weird going on!

My Photoshop is doing this weird thing where I open a .CR2 raw image and then save it as a jpg, but what I save is an image which has "lost" it's colour, and I end up with a dull and less vibrant image, as if the levels of vibrancy and saturation were decreased or something, compared to what I'm seeing on screen. Any ideas? :S

sRGB or Adobe RGB . Monitor and software must be in same color space

Did the save as dialog box assigned a color profile to your file other than intended? Maybe make a note and look through the steps you usually take (from opening to saving), and see if any profile is assigned to them? One other thing is to see how your photoshop treat files by looking at the Color Settings (Edit/Color Settings), if it changes them to something else. The usual profile are usually Adobe RGB or sRGB.

Okay I don't know much about changing monitor colours and stuff but I know something is going on there.

May I suggest you open one of the JPGs you're having problems with, and go to Edit/Assign Profile to see what profile it's assigned to. Then change it to either Adobe RGB/sRGB.
Set your monitor to Adobe RGB as well (it is currently set to Color LCD) - through system settings/preference.
See if that changes anything.

For your Color Setting, the most common is set to (North America Prepress 2)
RGB: Adobe RGB
CMYK: US Web Coated (SWOP) v2

And next go through your usual steps of making a jpg. And see if that helps.

Go with monitor RGB and ditch sRGB for sure. Make sure to do a good job of calibrating your monitor too (ie: use "custom" instead of the standard "monitor color" setting for an LCD screen.

To calibrate go to: System Preferences >> Displays >> Calibrate

No, you don't want to use a monitor profile as an editing space. Something weird is going on because you have it set correctly with the north american thing.

If ACR is kicking out a jpg in Adobe98, photoshop will 'preserve embedded profile' like it says, if you then open this file in a non color managed program (browser for instance) you will get the symptoms you describe. You'll need to change the file to srgb in ACR (easiest) (that little link on the bottom of the acr window?) or in photoshop (Edit>Convert to profile 'srgb', for every picture) to make it look right in a non color managed program. Srgb is the standard for the web.

I think that's right, been a while since I've used ACR...
