Sometimes a DSLR just works

I'll be the first to wax poetic about the intrinsic merits of film, TLR's and other "make you work for it" photo systems. It always strike me humorously - perhaps even with a tinge of guilt - when I notice how handy it can be to have a beast of a DSLR crank out perfectly exposed and focused shots with a near industrial pace.

Obviously these are times when you are just focused on the business of making images, and need not concern yourself with a conspicuously prominent outfit that operates with the subtlety of an said hypothetical industrial machine.

I sometimes wonder about that very thing. I think you could make the case that the one advantage an SLR has over mirrorless is speed in difficult situations - something like a shallow DOF shot in poor light with rapid movement. When the day comes that a manufacturer (probably Sony) can confidently say a mirrorless body can out-shoot an SLR, it will be a watershed moment in the progression of technology.

Aside from these edge cases, Sony's A7 is probably indistinguishably different in performance to an SLR in favorable conditions - something like a wide angle lens at f/5.6+ on a sunny day.

My Canon 5D shutter sounds like rifle reloading.
It is ten years old, costs two hundreds bucks now and with L glass on it leaves in the dust most of those fancy little ones . Even my six years old Canon 500d, which have shutter sounds like squeaking rocking chair, gives better pictures, comparing to those modern slick crops with useless AF.
I have film for fun and art and DSLRs if I need to deliver something more consumable, yet outstanding.

I`d have to agree .
I have a 40d ... hardly a joy to use but it sure is efficient and produces great results.

Menu is simple and easy to use too.
Shutter sound doesn`t seem to bother me.
