Most shots aren't anything special. It's the keepers that make this game the one we want to play.

We were visiting Green Bay Wisconsin last weekend for a Thomas the Tank Engine event for my 3 year old son. That evening my wife and I walked a short way to go to a restraunt for a nice dinner while Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt and Uncle played with our son. I had my Iskra loaded with Fuju Realia ISO 100 and my VC Meter II in it's shoe. On the way there, in the early evening, we checked out this old Catholic cemetary (Duck Creek Cemetary) and saw that they had gathered all the old stones up into a memorial surmounted by a large crucifix. Coming around the one side so that it was backlit by the setting sun, I saw the image in this post. I knelt down, metered, gulped, braced and shot.

It's always pleasing when the print matches what you wanted to see. The light through the flag and the highlights on the underarms of the christus are especially what I was looking for.

Nice shot William! Good capture and well framed.

Thank you Doug. The framing was one of the things I loved about the oportunity - this was just about as big a gift for a 6x6 as you could want. There is no crop to the scan - that's what's on the print. A couple of things I could slightly want to change, but over all, I'm really pleased with this one. It's in my personal top 5 I think.

Beautiful shot William, but I noticed that the flag seems to have a white background behind the stars rather rhan a blue one. Is there a reason for this?

That looks to be light shining through the blue field of an older, somewhat worn flag.

Kurt, Doug is correct about the blue field. When I was on the other side of the flag it appeared blue just fine, but when I came around to the backlit side it was that glow coming through it that caught my eye first.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, I've scanned the other shots from that evening and put them into an album in my gallery. I don't think any of them are as interesting, but someone might like to see this shot in context.

Iskra "Radiance"

Iskra "Radiance"

William, talk about Leica "glow", that old Tessar is "radiant". 🙂

I wonder if the glass really did come from Zeiss? 😀

We'll never know.

I love the look from old "Zeiss" lenses... you're right that we'll never know for sure, but when I see a shot like that one, I believe the story.
