Songs about photography

Juanes y Nelly Furtado

"Fotografia"

"Turning Japanese", the Vapors:

I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I'd like a million of you all round my cell
I want a doctor to take your picture
So I can look at you from inside as well

...Mike

SteelyDan's Peg:

I've seen your picture
your name in lights above it
this is your big de-but
it's like a dream come true
so won't you smile for the camera
I know you're gonna love it

Peg it will come back to you
Peg it will come back to you
Then the shutter falls
You see it all in3D
it's your favourite foreign movie

note: lyrics may not be exact (pulled from a guitar tab site)

Hey I just read on wikipedia that Bill Braggs song "Cindy of a thousand lives" was written about Cindy Sherman! As a big fan of both, I'm a little ashamed that I never made the connection.

Anyone know of any other photography related songs?

"It's a Man Ray kind of sky. Let me show you what I can do with it." - R.E.M.

I saw Billy Bragg last month in LA and it was one of the best performances I'd ever seen. We expected him to be performing with his band, but he surprised us and walked on stage with just his guitar and it was amazing.

Anyways, here's a verse from a song by the Mountain Goats titled Your Belgian Things

The men were here to get your Belgian things
They'll spend the whole day hauling them downstairs
I shot a roll of thirty-two exposures
My camera groans beneath the weight it bears

I always thought it was weird that he said he shot 32 exposures. Was this ever a normal amount on a roll?

"I'll Wait" from Van Halen 1984; about being obsessed with a model in a magazine. David Lee Roth actually sings "such good photography"!

"Leica virgin ... ooh ooh ... touched for the very first time,
Leica vir-ir-ir-irgin ... got your (M) body ... on my mind!"

:p

Photographs and memories by Jim Croce

Photographs and memories
Christmas cards you sent to me
All that I have are these
To remember you

Memories that come at night
Take me to another time
Back to a happier day
When I called you mine

But we sure had a good time
When we started way back when
Morning walks and bedroom talks
Oh how I loved you then

Summer skies and lullabies
Nights we couldnt say good-bye
And of all of the things that we knew
Not a dream survived

Photographs and memories
All the love you gave to me
Somehow it just cant be true
Thats all Ive left of you

But we sure had a good time
When we started way back when
Morning walks and bedroom talks
Oh how I loved you then

And most definitely on topic
Sung by Tommy Steele in the London musical "Half a Sixpence" in 1963

FLASH,BANG,WALLOP which goes

All lined up in a wedding group
'Ere we are for a photograph
We're all dressed up in a morning suit
All trying hard not to laugh
Since the early caveman in his fur
Took a trip to Gretna Green
There's always been a photographer
To record the 'appy scene.....

'Old it, flash, bang, wallop, what a picture
What a picture, what a photograph
Poor old soul, blimey, what a joke
Hat blown off in a cloud of smoke
Clap 'ands, stamp yer feet
Bangin' on the big bass drum
What a picture, what a picture
Um-tiddly-um-pum-um-pum-pum
Stick it in your fam'ly album

etc,etc,etc

That made me laugh.

How about "I turn my camera on" by Spoon? That's a quality jam, although the video is kinda crap.

Tenous: Desafinado: Fotografie vocé na minha Rolleiflex...
If you prefer Sinatra's version: I took your picture with my trusty Rolleiflex...

No so tenous: Yes, Into the Lens: I am a camera/ camera camera

Well, I'll be...

I've heard this song so many times, the "original" with Jobim, with Mendes, Ella Fitzgerald, with Sinatra, and never heard that line.

I'll go play it right now.

Late to the ball as usual:bang: good thread though. Anyway, you'll all be too young to remember...........'Picture of you' by Joe Brown and the BRUVERS!!!!!
