OK, here's a dummy question. I just looked at Popflash.photo and fell in love with the black Zeiss Ikon. Comes with the f:2.0 50mm Planar. Is this a ho-hum lens? I saw all your lovely Sonnar stuff, but the initial question seems to have been dropped in terms of which is better, as no one has discussed the Planar..

Also, is the T* ZM lens mount something proprietary, or is it the same as a Leica M mount?

the planar is right up there with the best of them.
it has a different look from the sonnar.

zm zeiss m = m mount...same as leica m mount

Focus at 27+ inches. 🙂

That's the minimum focus distance for the Planar. The MFD for the Nokton is 35+ inches.

I used received a new ZI 35mm f/2 in silver and it looks fantastic on my chrome M3. (Pic posted in other threads.)

So posthaste I ordered the ZI Sonnar 50mm f/1.5 also in chrome. I'll use my 50mm Nokton on my M7 and R-D1's.

Okay, it's ego at work... I love the look of the ZI lenses on the M3. But from what I've read I will also be thrilled with the pictures I get...

Anyone want a virtually new Leica 50mm f/2.8 collapsable in chrome...? 😉

not much really.
same if you used a contax with a 50 sonnar or a nikon with a 50/2 lens on it.

i think how a camera feels in your hand is as important as the pedigree of the camera. the leica m3 feels great in my hand but the removable bottom and film loading is just too much of a pain for me.
i liked the feel of the bessa r when i had one but the zi seems a bit bigger in my hand and the zm lenses are a bit bigger also and i have come to quite like that feel. i now prefer it to a smaller camera/lens combo.
