Sons

It occurs to me in the context of this thread that mostly concerns visible devotion to young sons that I have been photographing mine for 37 years. These two are from his recent visit to my new home, not far from where he was born.

One day our sons, daughters too, no longer turn automatically to our lens, like a heliotrope to the parental sun. Many turn away for years after the onset of the hormonal neurosis of puberty and in the crooked paths of individuation. Their lives should and may yet outlast ours, and in whatever way they must, they have to practice adult solitude, a life without their earliest, most devoted audience. My son has outlived his mother already, and in his heart knows that I am living where I will gradually retreat from the world and then vanish. That is part of what I am now seeing and showing. Looking at his face and body and the effects of life on the edge of the middle years from the invisible world, where I live.

Picking apples from ancient, long-abandoned trees at the back of the yard with my son and a couple of friends. The pictures of the boys were taken with a Nikkormat/50 Nikkor 1.4 on Trix. The apple with a Fuji XE-2s and a Minolta MC 50/1.7

"Like Father...Like Son" A day out at the Old Growth Forest, Kokanee Park, Nelson BC, Canada. My son used an Original Canon EOS M, I took his picture with a Fuji XE-2s. We have yet to develop the Tri-x from the Nikkormat. Hope for the best.

Awesome, and well done! I hope to be shooting outdoors with my son when he's your son's age. Have you developed the shots from the Nikkormat yet?
