Am using a rented a7 and haven't been able to get a magnified view while in manual focus. After pressing "focus magnifier" in the camera settings menu, what should I do next? The only button that gives a response is C2: the response is, "invalid because lens not attached. attach lens correctly." but the lenses are attached and otherwise working fine. this happens with both adapters I've tried, one for Olympus OM to nex, the other Leica M to nex.
The skimpy copy of the manual I have doesn't address the how-to of this, so far as I can tell.
btw, though, the lenses I've tried so far look terrific: Canon 35mm f2 ltm, 50 summicron, 90 tele-elemarit -- and a 24mm Olympus OM 2.8, which looks to be an ideal $200 solution for wide angle.

You need to open the "release without lens" selection. That will give you access to full magnification function without a native lens attached.

C2 is used in image review to magnify. I think originally (without any change), C1 can be used to magnify while shooting. I have changed mine to magnify when pressing the button inside af/mf knob.

One complaint I have for A7 is that unlike the Nex series that magnified using the center of the command wheel for image review, A7 magnifies using C2 ...which doesn't seem to make much sense in ergonomics.

Thanks, I did that, before attaching non-native lenses. Camera lets me shoot, but I still can't get magnified view.

I would love to use the af/mf button to magnify, but please, exactly how did you change it to do that? I'm afraid I need step by step instructions, as the Sony interface is so different from others I've used.

I haven't encountered this problem at all...can you check if the firmware is actually production version and not 0.x?

Other than that I have no more suggestions other than a full power cycle, card formatting and resetting all functions and key assignments. My NEX-7 used to show error messages when I enabled the movie button, a full reset fixed the issue.

thanks for your help. i solved the problem a few minutes ago, not having seen your latest reply. eventually saw how to assign magnifier to the af/mf button, and after that, it took me some further time to realize that you have to hit that button TWICE to enlarge the image. i think i could have solved it sooner if not for the misleading lens-not-mounted-properly message.
why can't all manufacturers be as smart as Ricoh when it comes to this kind of thing? (And of course, why oh why doesn't Ricoh make a full-frame GXR.)

All best,
Dan
