I seriously doubt there will be a Canon RF. The M8 would have to sell exteremely well for them to take interest, even then Canon is ruled by such a bean-counter ethos that I'd be shocked if they made such a move.
I do expect Cosina to jump in, but my guess is they'll hold back until they see what the reaction to the M8 is; the R-D1 hasn't sold well enough to give Mr. K. warm fuzzies about spending the big bucks on his own. Securing and spending capital for film RFs on your own is one thing; they have much of the tooling, not to mention manufacturing experience, already at hand.
Clearly with the R-D1 they dipped their toes in the digital design/manufacturing arena; finding another partner with the deep pockets to partner with Cosina would not be an insignificant task.

I just wish cosina would take that same old SLR body they've built for everyone & make a full frame back & LCD for it and then produce versions of it for every mount they've ever made - Canon FD, Olympus OM, Nikon F, etc - as that's probably the only way I'll ever get to buy what I want: a manual focus DSLR that takes FD lenses without crop factor.

Another argument is the viewfinder which is as big and bright as we expect it on a midrange SLR.
Probably THE two things which make it attractive for us.
OTOH, I don't think the 5D is some 1000 Euro better as a 30d.
The AF seems to be pretty good and I wouldn't care for AF points if they weren't wedded to E-TTL flash controll.
Since E-TTL is measured at the active focusing point, focus and recompose is not enough, it's compose, meter, focus, recompose, adjust flash and then shoot if the subject is still there 🙁

anyone have an opinion on the pentax k100d versus the sony a100?

The Pentax K100 uses the same basic tecnology (many rumors are that Minolta sourced to both Sony and Pentax) ... smaller sensor and if you have alot of old Pentax glass then its great especially with the Image Stabilization
If you have old Minolta Glass, want a bigger sensor, and really want Zeiss glass to go with your DSLR go for the Sony Alpha

It's a shame Konica-Minolta said "sayonara cruel welt", they were some of the best in real innovation (not buynovation a la Microsnot) with their cameras and other imaging equipment (i.e. scanners).
I hope Sony doesn't do the same thing with cameras what they did to their audio equipment (only the really expensive ones last) or all the CBS Masterworks collection :bang: I think they're renovating internally, though.
