Sony NEX-3 w/Leica and other M-mount Lenses

Since I received my m6 and 50mm cron, my Nikon Gear has been collecting dust. I appreciate portability more than anything now, and I seem to carry my m6 camera around with me, MUCH MUCH more than my d90.

I absolutely LOVE the m6, and I thought that my d90 would have complemented it quite well.

But I'm thinking to get a Sony Alpha NEX-3, a lens adapter, and eventually a 35mm biogon...to take the place of the nikon.

That way, I'd have this setup:

film: m6 + 50mm cron

digital: nex-3 + 34mm biogon

^figured it would be good, since I could switch lenses around, and sort of have the best of both worlds with different focal lengths. m9 is WAY out of my budget for now...


Just wondering what the general opinion is of having leica or other m mount lenses on an NEX body? I have seen some examples, and have been quite impressed, but not as many as I thought. Seems like most people aren't shooting digital with their leica lenses this way, but then again, I'm not sure...
 
Check out my Flickr for some NEX-3/Zeiss 50mm ZM snaps - very nice combo but I want to get the 35mm Biogon. The NEX-3 makes for a great budget digital back. Think of it that way.

you're convincing me more and more to go for it! i think i will, ultimately i am sure it will be a good complement with the m6, and i can carry both around at the same time...no problem switching lenses for now, until i get a 35mm eventually.

i read somewhere that firmware (v4?) has a 'zoom' feature for more precise focusing...when shooting at f/2, how difficult or easy is it to focus with the 'zoom' feature on?

I now use the new firmware with focus-enhancing zebra stripes, but these were taken without any aids. The digital magnification on the viewfinder helps a lot though.

I am finding it to be a pretty positive experience. If anything (with my crappy eyesight) focussing using focus peaking is easier than with a rangefinder. The rendering is also pretty good on the NEX.

Having said that I have an M8 as well. I find that while the best M8 images are hard to beat ( when I get both focussing and exposure right) I still miss quite a few images because I have not quite nailed focus or because the M8's fairly rudimentary meter gives a less than optimal result.

The NEX results are more predictable if of little less quality thna the best the M8 can produce. I should qualify that to say - in all but one respect. Its dynamic range and high ISO performance craps on the M8. (Sorry guys but thats a pretty accurate assessment in my book.)

I think so, but I don't own a Nex-C3, just the old Nex-5, which has it (it was a firmware upgrade).

No. The Nex-5N and Nex-C3 have the same 16 MP sensor, while the Nex-5 and Nex-3 have the same (older) 14 MP sensor.
