Sony NEX underexposure recoverability test

After a little bit of torture testing, I arrived at a frame that was shot three stops underexposed, in noise-prone tungsten light, with the kit lens at minimum focusing distance, and at ISO 1600. I then went to Lightroom 3 to see what I could do.

You can draw your own conclusions, but there is apparently a lot of shadow detail recorded in a Sony ARW file.

I am exploring a similar strategy with my Canon 1DIII. ISO 800 & underexpose 3 stops. Recovery in Lightroom 2. I'll order Lightroom 3 soon. Thanks!
It looks like "pushing" works for digtial like it does for analog. Better perhaps.

ps: I also have one of the original Konica cameras. My dad bought it in Japan circa 1950-1951. I really like the lens on that camera.

Cool, thanks Dante. These new sensors are amazing. The new 16MP Sony sensor in the D7000, K5, A55 and A580 seems even more impressive. We're approaching the "ISO-less" sensor now: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?topic=49200.0

Interesting! It's very useful in the review mode to show lost shadow detail. Most of my other digicams only show blown highlights.
