Yes, I'm starting to get intrigued by the possibilities in some ways... then I snap out of it once I think of the cons. Could be good for fenced off areas... since you can just stick it through the fence. This is bad though... "Also note that they will only shoot JPEGs."

It's a great concept and I'm curious how it will develop.
I can see using one tripod mounted and controlled with iPad. Especially for video.
Soon 3rd party apps will appear for specialized uses. Underwater housings, ariel drones, etc...
I can imagine Wedding/event/sports videographers setting up several on tripods and controlling from Laptop.
This thing has a long evolution in front of it. Should be fun to see what folks do!

sony is always willing to put some outrageous stuff on the table but i'm not really seeing how this is better than having a RX100 MkII and it's NFC and Wi-Fi which from what I have seen is painless and easy to use.

It's cheaper, smaller in some ways...and is geared towards a different type of user.

Not necessarily better..than rx100. Since it as limited controls, for example only aperture priority w/ exposure compensation and program modes plus no raw and power up time is slow, one could argue worst not better.

On the other hand, if I ave an application where u can use the remote shooting capability... Or u want a tablet size LCD screen for composing that is a horse of a different color.

I don't understand their choice of no raw support when they have local memory card support on the unit. It can send Jpg to memory card and to smart device at same time. Just keep raw local and only send Jpg to smart device if they are worried about file size issues.

I will be watching this one to c how things turn out, but right now I don't think I will be getting one. I love the way they are thinking out of the box.

I agree w/ Andy about the event type applications for this device. Another application is if it has interval timer, then put it someplace to record animals, birds, etc with a pre focused point.

I wonder if they would do an apsc sensor size device one day w/ e mount lens capability for bigger smart devices like tablets for example if this ever takes off.

So is anyone getting one?

Ps forgot to mention, once it is controllable from a smart evice, the applications that can be done w/ such a device is only limited to the imagination.

Yeah I saw that JPEG only thing. I bet if the idea takes off they might start adding raw support in future iterations.

For a serious photographer, it's not. But it is $250 less expensive. And that's going to put it in the hands of more casual shooters. (Granted, the low-priced, longer zoom model will probably sell more units. And if you do go with the smaller sensor model, you can get a Wi-Fi-enabled Canon PowerShot Elph 330 HS for less money.)

And you can add an Eye-Fi card to practically any digital camera. I shoot Raw+small JPG with an Eye-Fi Mobi card in the M240. The Mobi card is a heck of a lot easier to configure than previous iterations of the technology.

The big advantage to an approach like this for cell-phone photogs and Instagrammers is that you won't have to sign a two-year contract to get a better camera in your smartphone.

I'm curious to see how well Sony does with this one.

I'm interested in the fact that I can have the camera is one place and my VF in another...since they claim the wi-fi connection between the two units works up to 15 feet away from each other. I wonder about lag between the devices though.

Serious stealth stuff lol. This also may be a pervs dream.

Definitely. Not sure on the timeline, but hopefully very soon. There's also a new Sony Android phone with a 20MP 1/2.3-inch sensor that looks intriguing. And Samsung announced an Android with a zoom lens and 1/2.3-inch a while back. I'll likely be looking at the camera side of both of those when they come in.
